and what sort of sucked? what surprised you?
For 4-yr old DS, he loved:
Stinky the G Truck
Hot Wheels Tub Racer (this is really a fun toy)
Make or Break It Game (we all loved this)
Alex's Spin Art
Any book with a dinosaur in it
Not really playing with:
Playmobile Pet Clinic
Magic Scratch Paper -- the paper is so crappy, what the hell
It really surprised me that the Hot Wheels Tub Racer was actually a good, sturdy product -- Hot Wheels is so hit or miss it seems. I'm also surprised by the Playmobile, but I may have been thinking more about what I would have wanted as a kid when I bought it
.
Re: so what presents were a hit?
Stinky
Super Mega Crane
Melissa & Doug logger truck
Scobby Doo Mystery machine and characters
DS hits:
Imaginext Research boat with the subs
Imaginext Dino Lost Creatures
Drum pad and sticks that DH got for him
DDs Twinkle Twinkle Little Violet bedtime toy (loved it so much that we ordered a Scout one for him)
Completely uninterested in the Stinky the Garbage truck he begged for (thankfully I just got the mini one).
DD hits:
Pop On Pals sets
My First Dollhouse
Grocery cart
DS - December 2006
DD - December 2008
DS 3.5:
Fisher Price iXL, Stinky the Garbage Truck, WWE wrestling guys & ring, viewmaster
DD 2:
Fisher Price iXL, Cinderella toddler princess doll, viewmaster
They are playing with everything they got, but these are their favorites
Barbie Fashion Fairytale Vanity
Rapunzel dress and wig
imaginext Batcave
Tonka Mod Machines truck
DS2
Imaginext Ocean set
Doctor set from my mom
I'm not sure of all the hits or misses yet. We had to leave shortly after we opened everything and they didn't get to play with most of their toys yet.
Ds: iPod, Lego sets, play-doh, Hexbugs
Dd: A scooter, dress-up clothes, play-doh, My Little Pony who comes with her own little plastic bathtub and a towel, Pillowpet, Dora microphone...she was thrilled with everything she got. She's easy to please!
DD1:
Rapunzel dress
Rapunzel tower
DD2:
a toothbrush that was in her stocking.
DS - huge helicoptor with rescue hook, chuck the truck set, tool kit, plush SuperWhy
DD - doll carrier/carseat, scooter, where's waldo books, pillow pet
DS: Leapster Explorer & kid camera
DD: Pink Little Tykes Coupe
For DS1_ he love, love his polar express train, he also likes the leapster explorer too.
For DD_ we got her a Melissa and Doug baby doll and a little stroller, she seems to love that, and also her princess shoes with matching tiaras.
My mom got the kids a Big piano, DS2 seems to love sliding himself on it so make music, he thinks it's hilarious.
Hits:
joint gift - Little Tikes Grill
DS, Paper Jamz although we cannot totally figure it out yet, Leapster Explorer, craft stuff
DD, Doodle Pro type toy from Be (used to be Parents at Target), craft stuff
And I am surprised you do not like the scratch paper, we have scratch books and DS loves them although I think they are crazy expensive for what you get.
We haven't really had any misses yet (yay!) The big hits for DS were all the Imaginext stuff (he got the Batcave, Joker Funhouse, and Pirate Ship) and anything he got to go with it. Between that and what he already had his bedroom is starting to look like a FP advertisement. And I know my MIL got him the aircraft carrier. Oy.
For DD so far it was a baby doll and baby stroller.
And they've both been playing with her kitchen
Santa was good to us!!
Ethan:
Hit: Pixar Car's pit crew and crew chiefs (those were on the top of his list, though), hot wheels criss cross crash track, the hot wheels trick track (whatever it's called), UK toboggan, Mater's Tall Tales. There really wasn't anything Ethan didn't like.
Bella:
Hit: Bouncing Babbles (Baby Alive). She didn't put that baby down all day. She didn't ask for her, but Ethan picked it out and she loves her to death. Sketchers Twinkle Toes. She was with me when we bought them. Saw them and begged for them by name (damn commercials). Imagine the fit when she peed her pants and we had to take them off for the day. Barbie Boutique shopping thing. Lip gloss and nail polish. She wasn't a huge fan of wedding day barbie, which she has been begging for for months. All of her other barbie stuff was just okay to her, but I know it will be played with once the excitement of bouncing babbles has worn off a bit.
Maile:
Hit: Magnadoodle and fridge phonics ABC's. She's obsessed with these toys at my sister's house, so I bought them and they were the winner. She wasn't too excited about anything else, if she even noticed there were other toys. She wouldn't open anything else after she got her hands on these, and she's normally obsessed with opening gifts!
DS-
Tag reading system with the interactive U.S. Map (who knew?! I was surprised by this one!)
Paper Jams were his number one favorite, he wanted them so bad.
XBox Kinect
DD-
Colored foam building blocks (I was totally surprised by this one too!!)
Little People Castle
Playdoh
They still have more gifts coming in a few days when my family gets here, so I guess it could change! lol!
DS #1-
imaginext batcave, tri county landfill and evil dr. porkchop spaceship
Hot Wheels Dr. Bones Color lab
Explorer
Both boys (almost 4 and 16 months)
Jump o lene
Radio Flyer Scoot n' Zooms (even the 10 and 12 yr old cousins loved those things)
the 16 mo old also got a little quad, but we have not opened that yet
The girls: Hits - American Girl Dolls, Scooters, and Pillow Pets.
Misses: The Tangled doll DD#1 asked for and a Snap-n-Style doll for DD#2. Nothing.
They like, but aren't as excited about, the playdough set, princess shoes and books.
DS: Hits - FP Tool Bench thingy, a fire truck that has a hammer to bang on it and that he can drive around.
He loves to bang on things and drive cars so it's the best of both worlds.
Total Misses: Pillow Pet/Any and all stuffed animals (he has no interest in stuffed animals), One of those walker/ride-on dinosaur toys from the ILs. I knew he wouldn't want/like that. We have two other ones that he has no interest in.
Hits: Mini-kick scooter (they both love and are fighting over it), bounce house, train table, Kinect (for DH but DD also enjoys), various Mater trucks, Perfection game (https://www.amazon.com/Milton-Bradley-4060-S5-Perfection/dp/B00000IWHG/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1293379077&sr=1-1)
Misses: any non-toy gifts
, the Cars Piston Cup Garage (he hasn't touched it; but loves the matchbox Lightening it came with)
Stinky, the LF Explorer, the Pillow Pet, and the giant race track were huge hits.
Not so much the Imaginext Space Station. Of course, it took him awhile to start playing with the Imaginext stuff he got last year, so I'm sure it will be the same with this one.
You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
DD- hit-M&D cupcake set, Discovery Toys tool kit (this was a hit for everyone), AG doll, DQ blizzard making set
miss-penbo penguin, go-go walking dog (this thing was begged for and got 30 seconds of attention)
DS-hit-large talking woody, jessie, rex and we alrerady have buzz, my first remote control truck, 12 inche bike (he is really good at riding and pedaling it, i thought he would be too young).
Miss- imaginex stuff (i just think he is too young yet), shake and go buzz
everything is a hit so far, we've barely been home to enjoy anything though.
Talking microscope, tag system, craft stuff, train stuff, sleeping bags, matryoshka dolls...
Spike the dinosaur (remote control. . . I know it's from a few seasons ago, but she's been asking for it since then!)
Boris the Tyrannosaurus (to go with her other Dinosaur Train dinos)
Fisher Price ixl
Pop beads
activity books/stickers
Merry Christmas ya'll!
Criss Cross Crash was a HUGE hit. He's been talking about it for weeks and it did not disappoint. The bouncy house is his other favorite and has attracted all the neighborhood kids. He hasn't had the chance to really play with anything else.

David "BD" 2/8/07 Spencer 9/12/11Hits for L
Imaginex Air carrier ship
RC remote control car (the big one from Toy Story)
EXPLORER the boy has hardly put it down but it was awesome to have today at Church.
Legos. Man I really have put off the legos because Im anti small toys/blocks type person. But then I wondered down the lego section at TRU and found the TS one with the train Buzz and Wood & Jessie on sale. I didnt know the instructions were so easy to read (no words, just pictures) or that the pieces were so big. (im thinking of the tiny ones) We will most definitely be getting more Legos for Bdays in May. (how do you store your legos when you have more than one set? Keep the directions and mix the pieces or separate each set? Box,bin, bag????? Im ocd and need to know the best way to make it easy to play with and keep together so we dont lose pieces.
Light Bright (flat screen)
Tag Books
Nerf gun (from my mom) The boy is in love. And its the smallest cheapest one they have. I cant wait to get him one of the bigger ones now. (it will be next year or the year after..not any time soon) He has so much fun shooting at a target or mirrors/glass so they stick.
Color change Machbox car set (Dr Evil color lab I think) He got about 10 cars all together. Some from me, some from santa (perfect stocking stuffer) and some from my gma.
$5 Cars puzzle It was a last minute add on and he has put it together all alone (24pc) 3 times today. We have decided frame it and hang it in his room. (done in cars) I know....the horror...character decor!!! Ahhh! He is 5. Im allowing him to pick. He will grow out of it.
Dog Pillow pet. he has sang the commercial song allllllllll day and it is really cute.
Clothes. So easy to please him. He got a lot of nice clothes which he loves to get. He really got spoiled this cmas.
He really didnt have any misses. He loved and has played with everything he got. Santa/mommy & daddy did good with him this year.
K&K on the other hand have a few misses
Hits.....Explorers. Love them...wonderful in church today as well. I can see why so many of the other kids their ages at church have a ds or something similar. just wasnt ready to do full on video games. At least these are learning games.
Moxie girl remote control car
Moxie girl snow doll with magic snow
Misses
Go Go walking pup It may be because there is sooo much other stuff and we havent been home much. We were at my moms from 2-9pm yesterday and from 12:30-6 today. (my uncle was in from Ga so we spent a lot of time with him)
Lalaloopsy doll
Mrs. Potatoe head
AG rip off from Target (our generation??) doll with extra outfit. Again, we havent been home and they are obsessed with their explorers. Although they do have a few outfits that came with an oufit to match a doll. They has zero interest in changing their doll today to match what thy hzx
Rapunzel doll
7 pack of princess dolls that Target had. My mom bought them these with 2 of the princess movies (Beauty and the Beast and Snow White) Yet again, these havent really had time to be played with. They are still in my van..:( I have been lazy and not carried our stuff in from my moms.
DS hit: train table and pillow pet
DS flop: cabbage patch doll (got him one so he would leave DD's alone)
DD hit: all things barbie related and her new beauty and the beast dress up clothes
DD flop: Tag Reader. I think she'll like it, but right now playing with all the new doll stuff is much more fun than reading.
