Nook owners

I just got the nook last night from my IL's. I'm super excited and trying to explore it and learn.  However, my husband has an IPAD and has the Kindle app, and so far it seems way more user friendly, has lots of free books and tons of magazines you can order.

The nook seems to have only 25 magazines to choose from, I don't see any free books and I thought you could borrow books from your local library....However, I'm not seeing that yet.

Any info you can pass along?  Is the Kindle better than the Nook?

TIA!

Re: Nook owners

  • I am not sure, but the nook is a lot cheaper than the ipad.  I wanted to see what this post gets for responses.  We just got my mom a nook.  DH wants an Ipad when the new version comes out.  I don't know anyone with a kindle.  I am curious about the reviews.

  • I think you need to go to your local library for the information on how to download their ebooks. The Kindle doesn't do library loans. Also, I think the Nook does a free book each week or something like that. Do a google search for Nook vs Kindle reviews and you can get a good comparison review from their. The nook is highly preferred for multiple reasons.

  • I got a Kindle yesterday. There are a ton of free books to download. Most of them are classics like Beauty and the Beast and Common Sense. There are a few interesting ones that I've downloaded and seem to be good so far!!

I think what interested me more about the Nook was that it's in color. My Kindle is in black and white and doesn't show the cover of the books in my list, just the title and author. Not a biggie, I guess. I'm really enjoying my Kindle though!

  • I have a kindle that I got last jan.  My mom and dad both have kindles also.  I don't think that the nook is highly preferred over the kindle at all.  I think it's quite the opposite.  However, most people will prefer what they have and I don't think you can go wrong with the nook or kindle.  I just think the kindle is better.  =)
  • Which Nook do you have? The original or the color? I have the color and I love love love it. If you're on FB their is a great page of nook users who have books to share, they also have info about different libraries you can get a card at that has digital ebook rentals as well as the link to Free Book Fridays.

I'm not sure about the original nook, but with the color I know their is more than 25 magazines also.

  • You can get library books on the nook.  You need to download adobe digital editions to your computer.  Then when you download the book from the library it goes there (when you have the option to open the book or save the book, you need to open it).  Then plug your nook into your computer and it will show up in the adobe window.  Then just drag the book over to the nook and it will download.  It's super easy and I do it all the time.  I love my nook.
