Anxious and a little upset...

So it seems like everyone that I know with a similiar due date to me (June 8, 2011) is already finding out what they're having! I am beyond jelous and really dont get why my Doc insists on waiting until Week 20. I really want to find out and make sure that everything else is going well too. Thoughts? Anyone else feeling the same?

I'm finding out on Wednesday.  I know many of us are paying for elective ultrasounds.  My doctor does an anatomy scan at aroun 20 weeks.  I didn't want to wait that long.  So, if you dont, just pay for one:)

My concern is a healthy baby so knowing the gender doesn't make a difference to me.  I was team green with DS and we are toying with finding out this time.  Besides, if you find out earlier there is a higher possibility of them being wrong.

I also have to wait until week 20. i'm jealous and anxiously waiting but trying to just think of how unimportant that really is in the long run when i start feeling this way.

I would feel more secure about the 20 week one anyway. A couple people I know did the elective one and it turned out things ended up being a bit different once the baby was born. After purchasing everything either in pink or blue etc. What a shocker to have to buy all new things!

I'm due June 3rd and I won't have my anatomy scan until January 11th.  I'm just thinking that the time is going to go by fast with New Years Eve 6 days away and then it's only 11 days after that.

While I was super excited to find out what we were having @ 16 weeks, I am still anxious over the 20 wk u/s.

The place we went to for the gender u/s does NOT do any kind of health assesment. They didn't even point out the heart. All they did was go straight to the legs and they never moved the scan from there.

So, we still have to wait a few more weeks to make sure our baby girl is in good health.

We are not finding out the sex...but I am due a couple of days after you.  If we were finding out the sex, it would be just a couple of days before 20 weeks...so I would be in the same boat.  We are having an ultrasound then...but not finding out anything.

The point of the anatomy us is not to find out the gender, that's just a bonus. The point of the us is to rule out abnormalities or give a heads up in case there are serious medical concerns that would require early intervention. some doctors feel  it is best to wait until the anatomy is more discernable at 20 weeks, so if you want to be reasured that everything is OK it is best to follow your doctor's recommendations.

I'm due almost a week before you and still don't know. Like a PP said...most of those that have found out, paid for an elective u/s.  The reason your Dr is waiting till 20 weeks is because the anatomy scan is when you find out the sex and that particular scan is really to take measurements of the baby to make sure it's healthy and growing, etc.  Do it sooner and they won't get accurate results.  He's not just trying to punish you or anything.  Only a few more weeks and you'll know.

Really!?  That's too bad   I am still nervous for our 20 weeks but during ours they did point out the heart and it's chambers, brain, stomach, bladder.  I'm surprised that they would even show the heart.  We did talk to the usn tech at length though and he said in the past when he has seen anything concerning to him he has advised the husband or guest of mom to make sure there is a Dr's apt. quickly, if that makes you feel any better.

My due date is also on June 8th and I am not finding out until June 25th at the 20 week ultrasound. Many people only get a 20 week ultrasound. Really finding out the sex is not the biggest deal to me. I am anxious to find out how all of the babies organs look and of course the heart, from my experience with my first pregnancy and my child's heart defect. They wait until the 20 week ultrasound to find look at all of the organs because the baby is big enough to be able to really examine the organs, but not too big where the bones are too dense and they can't see the organs well.

I honestly don't understand how or why everyone is getting ultrasounds so early on this board. Around where I live, everyone I know waits until the 20 week.
