Hi there :> I just read the IVF MI post below and saw you switched to them from MI Comprehensive......who were you seeing there? We're there with Dr. Magyar - if you were with the same doc, can you tell me more about your experience?

  • I was seeing Dr. Hayes at that office.  Don't get me wrong, I really liked her, but I felt that they were being too cautious with me and not really moving forward with anything.  Part of that was my fault because I wasn't as demanding as I could have been with asking for a more agressive approach.

For example, I did 6 cycles of Clomid with little to no response each time.  On my last cycle she finally moved me to injectables, but was SUPER cautious and I barely ended up with one follicle, and that was because, not that I recommend this at all, I took things into my own hands and upped my dosage (I was at 225 and upped it to 275).  For the most part we pay OOP for all medications, and I didn't want the cycle to be a bust because they were being too cautious.

I have heard really good things about Dr. Magyar - I met a girl in the waiting room one day who was seeing him.  She had nothing but good things to say about him.  My choice to switch had a lot to do with my frustration levels with Dr. Hayes - I was tired of having everything done by the nurses and only seeing her once throughout the entire process.  I just wanted a more hands on approach from the doctor.  It also had a lot to do with the location - It was over an hour drive each way.

Good luck with everything!!  Let me know if you have any other questions - you can always e-mail me at connie.hosner@gmail.com

  • Hi girls..

sorry to butt in but just wanted to say one thing in regards to a comment from Chosner...

I've worked with two RE's in the area, IVF MI with Abuzeid and Ashraf and Dr. Mersol-Barg who is out of Birmingham. They are all fabulous and totally know what they are doing. But in my experience at both places, you're not going to get more involvement from the Dr. than you're already getting. For example, it's not going to be Ashraf or Abuzeid that does your ultra sounds for stim checks, IUI's, or calls you. It's the nurses. So that isn't going to be any different now, than it is with Dr. Hayes. I just don't want you to have expectations that it will cause you will be disappointed.

The only time I saw Ashraf or Abuzeid was at my actual ER and ET for IVF, my mock transfer/SHG and the appointments for planning my protocol and then my WTF appt when my first IVF failed. Having the nurses do the u/s's and IUI's is very standard and if you ask on the board, I think you'll find that most of the girls will say their RE doesn't do that stuff unless it's a very small practice.

    Good luck!
  • Thanks for the info ladies!!!! Connie - I'm definitely going to save your email address for future use! hehe We have our IVF consult on Oct 31st and hope to start the process soon after. I slacked off a bit and didn't realize I should have called to make this appt sooner, so we'll see...

I've loved Dr. Magyar so far - we were originally referred to Hayes but my 1st appt was made with Magyar and I didn't realize til we got there. We've met with him 3 times so far and I like the fact he performed the 1st successful IVF in MI. He's also the director and really took the time with us to answer lots of ?s and put DH at ease about his fears. yay! I'm getting anxious. I'm also relieved you hadn't had probs with Magyar direct. I have never met Hayes. GL at IVF MI and with your next cycles - hopefully we both have success soon...! :>
