Pregnant after a Loss

Settle a debate btw DH & I (thermostat related)

We have 6 inches of snow on the ground and today's forecast is a high of 34 and a low of 19.

We're going to be in the house all day. What is a reasonable temperature to set our thermostat on for the day?

  • Our temps aren't that low and I have mine set at 72. If we get hot, we can open a door or window. lol

  • my DH keeps it at 62 if we're home. I prefer it to be at least 65, but until we have kids in the house I am ok with using blankets while I chill and watch TV if it save a few bucks.
  • We keep it at 69 during the winter.

  • We don't pay for heat ( renters). We keep ours at 70-72 all winter. If it's -35 outside, I want to be comfortable inside at least.

  • Ours is anywhere from 63-67, but our house is small so it doesn't take much to warm it up.

  • When we're not home or at night, it's 60.  When we are home and up it's 68.  What's DH Think it should be?

  • OK.

Dh thinks it should NEVER under any circumstances go over 65. I got frustrated and put it on 68 and he FREAKED out.

At night, he puts it on 50 downstairs and 62 upstairs. When I wake up in the morning, the house is absolutely bone chilling.

This morning, I had on flannel pajamas, a hooded sweatshirt over those, a flannel bathrobe, wool socks, and a fleece blanket on my lap and I was FREEZING.

I should not have to be uncomfortable in my own home.

He has been put on notice that this will not be acceptable when the baby arrives.

  • If we're home all day, not doing much, then I set it at 68-70. If your doors/windows aren't that well sealed, then you may want to set it a few degrees higher to counteract any cold drafts.

According to FIL who is relatively knowledgable and extraordinarily cheap you should always keep your house at 60 or above to ensure the basement/crawlspace where your pipes are stay warm enough that your pipes don't freeze and burst.  (something makes me suspect FIL knows about this from experience)

  • I use Celsius.. so I had to whip out a calculator for this one.. but I'm happiest when its 72 inside.  I get so cold if its any lower..

it's 32 outside on a warm day, but usually around 20 degrees.  I dont like it :(
