We are travelling by car to Arizona (from Kansas) right after Cmas. I am looking for some great reads to pass the time. I wish the search feature worked, because I know this has been asked before.
What are your favorites? What are you reading now and what do you think of it? Thanks!
Re: Book recommendations?
I recently read 'Room' by Emma Donahue, which was really intriguing. Right now, I am reading 'Speak Softly, She Can Hear', which I have gotten really absorbed in. I would definitely recommend both. I think the next book that I will pull out of my pile is 'Little Bee.'
I have a big pile of books to work through, but also got a Kindle last month. My next Kindle purchase will probably be 'Unbroken' by Laura Hilenbrand.
Have you thought about books on tape? They give you something to listen to and just an alternative to reading in the car.
But just in case you want an actual book - "Room" was interesting and different. I've read "The Help" I liked it, but I felt like it was really hyped up, so I think I expected too much. Same with "Little Bee" because the back of the book refuses to tell you anything about it. Again, interesting, but too much hype. If you're into YA books, I liked the Hunger Games trilogy.
I got just got a Kindle and they have a lot of classics for free - but I think they would just make me fall asleep in the car.
If you are looking for something light to pass the time, I recommend the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. One for the Money is the first book (they all have numbers in the title) and you can usually find them at used book stores or even thrift stores for cheap. I was reading a lot of Jodi Picoult but I find a lot of her books depressing, so I've been reading something a little less intense.
