How many bottles? And when to go to 9 oz?

How many bottles do you send for a full day of daycare?

And when did you start using 9 oz bottles? My mom thinks we should make a big bottle and put what he doesn't eat back in the fridge, because he is starting to eat 6 oz now (so that would leave 2 as a snack later). But he doesn't always eat 6 oz and I don't want to keep tossing the extra 2 oz - I just make him another 2 oz if he is still hungry. WDYT?

  • I let DD's hunger lead me.  I'd make her 4, it wouldn't be enough. Sometimes I'd make 6, it'd be too much.

When she started STTN, I started offering her 8 oz bottles in the morning, because she would be going 12 hours at night and I thought she must be starving.  She polished them off, so we generally do an 8 oz bottle in the morning and 6 oz the rest of the day.

  • I would just continue making the 6oz bottles and just send extra for them incase he is hungry. No sense in wasting formula if he's not going to drink it.

  • We send 3-6 oz bottles.  Somedays he eats all three, some only 1 1/2.  It does seem like an awful waste of formula on the days he doesn't take that last bottle, but I want to make sure he has plenty for his 3 bottle days.

  • I also do 8oz in the morning and 6oz the rest of the day.  If he ever wants more, I just give him 2 ounces more when he asks for it.  Formula is expensive.  Why waste it??  He is 95% of the time content with 6oz or less throughout the day.
