What soaps and lotions do you use on sensitive skin?

DS #2 's skin gets very dry during the winter. I can only bathe him every other day and have to lather him in lotion. He still scratches and his skin gets bumpy and red. I don't use anything special on him besides some gentle baby wash and Aveno lotion. What do you all use on sensitive skin?

Re: What soaps and lotions do you use on sensitive skin?

  • DD was and still is very sensitive to anything with any scent to it and she gets the same itchy, red skin in winter. I use Burts Bees Buttermilk Lotion or the Method free and sensitive lotion although I think the Burts Bees works better! Good luck!

  • Dove soap unscented, sensitive (only use for spot washing)

Eucerin lotion (plus aquaphor on really dry spots)

    .
  • DD has bad eczema. She uses Dove unscented for bath, and Cervae lotion after the bath. Cervae is only sold at Select pharmacy stores like CVS and Walgreens, but it's done wonders for her skin.

  • I use Dove 'blue' (the original/unscented) bar soap on everyone.

Then I use Aquaphor on their trouble spots, and either Aveeno or one other I can't remember for all-over lotioning.  I was told by 2 different Pedi's that J&J is not good, regardless of the version/scent because it is super dye/scent laden.

  • The only thing that I can use on Mac is California Baby Super Sensitive wash and lotion. Even other "natural" brands make him rashy.
  • Eucerin lotion. My Mom was a nurse and used it on hospital patients all the time.
  • My dermatologist said Curel (original formula).    I swear by it.  My hands used to crack and bleed (even during the summers) since I switched, it hasn't happened again!

This, in bold.  It's the only thing I've found to work, but she's still super dry.

  • Ditto the Eucerin and aquaphor. My pediatrician also told me its better to take daily short, warm baths in winter, pat her dry when she gets out and immediately lotion her up. It traps some of the moisture under the skin. Its actually kept her skin a lot better than skipping baths every other day.

  • We use dove soap, aquaphor on cheeks, nose, chin. I use Johnsons lotion with aloe or aveeno lotion. What I do during the winter months is squirt a lil bit of Johnson's baby oil into the tub water. Only a lil bit, bc you dont want them slimey, or slipping in the tub. It does help keep their skin from drying out. Good luck!
  • I have pretty sensitive skin and poor DS is a mess if left alone.  I use purpose soap and hydrocortizone lotion and aquaphor.  It works very well.  We also shower.  I have heard different theories on the bath thing, but the shower just works best for us for other reasons, so we do that.
  • All of my LOs have really dry skin (DS2 has eczema with constant outbreaks) and we survive on aquaphor.  Their pedi also gave us a perscription ointment to use if their skin reaches that scaly/cracked stage.

  • Aveeno has worked great for us. DD used to have dry skin all over her tummy, but since switching to the Aveeno baby bath, we don't even have to use lotion on her anymore.

DH even uses Aveeno shaving cream because the Gillette stuff broke him out in a rash.
