Request DS's teacher on Facebook?

My son's teacher is a great teacher, and we get along great. There are some other parents from the PTA that have become friends with her on Facebook, but I am on the fence. Is it invading her private life? Just wanted some input on this.

Re: Request DS's teacher on Facebook?

  • As a former teacher I have only ever friended 2 of my student's parents.  This is only because I was friends with them outside of the school environment also.  Unless I put up things about my classroom and pics from the school then I would not except parents as friends.  I just don't want my students and the families to know what I am doing all the time.  But that is just me.

If she has other parents she might be fine with it though.  I just tend to post a lot about my own children and our private lives that I don't feel the entire school community needs to know.

  • Personally I think it is unprofessional for teachers to "friend" their students' parents and vice versa.  I think there are some aspects of their life and of yours that should stay personal.

agree.  although i feel less that way about a preschool teacher.

  • I really agree, and I think that is why I haven't requested her. She has a right to privacy...I probably wouldn't for my kids' preschool teachers, either.
  • no, I wouldn't. I am a former teacher and I have turned down friend requests from all students.
  • I'm a teacher and friends with two of my former students' parents.

One isn't at our school anymore and the other I had last year....  But other parents I have declined, especially if I have their student this year.

  • No I wouldn't.

I deleted my facebook page because we have so much controversy with this issue at my school.
