Yea, I have a ton of boxes from years past that I'd love to get rid off (pass on to someone else) but somehow I keep getting them back, or twice as many.
And it would save me time than having to dig through the large box of boxes in the attic. Although, 2 years ago we lost a gift certificate for $100 to a really good restaurant--- maybe I can find it in there.
I hoard boxes, bags and other gift things. When holiday season is approaching I start saving shipping boxes too.
That said, I put them in boxes (preferably saved clothing boxes). If I don't have a box I'll put it in a reused gift bag, if that's not available I'll just wrap it as is. Sometimes it helps to wrap it in a sheet or two of tissue paper (I save this too). It helps give it more shape to wrap with paper.
