Ikea had a kitchen set-up with butcher block countertops, white wainscoating (sp?) cabinets, and green walls. It was insanely gorgeous!
That's all I know!
White's generally the cabinet color I see and we were going to go with white at first but I've since changed my mind to a dark cherry. And we have 20x20 black slate tiles that I've already bought that are going in there as well. Sooooo I'm trying to save a little money on countertops and thought butcher block would be pretty but it's hard to find good examples with dark cabinets.

We considered the option of butcher block with our cherry cabinets (we ended up going with a light corian), so I saved a few inspiration images that had that look:
Good Luck, I know kitchen decisions can be daunting!!
I personally think the wood-on-wood tone of cherry cabinets and butcherblocks would be "off". The grains would be different as well as the style. BB reds "rustic" while cherry reads "classic. Just my .02.
I LOVE my countertops though. Easy to maintain, we use the entire surface for cutting (aside from raw meats), love it. We got the thinner ones from IKEA and I highly rec 'em.
