I'm sure most of you have read about my issues with my son's school, but the teachers who actually work with him are wonderful. There are too many for me to give individual gifts to, so I decided to gather some practical items I knew the teacher would use along with some items for the whole class to enjoy. For the class I gave a stack of Disney books, a couple of puzzles, play doh, and a days of the week game. There expressions when I showed up unannounced today with the huge bag was truly priceless. This school serves the poorest population of kids, and I am sure some won't have a Christmas. One little boy begged me to take home the Snow White book I brought.
Attendance is a huge issue for the school. I think some parents struggle with a language barrier, transportation, and other things which keep their children from attending. Tomorrow is a half day, so the teacher asked if T was coming in because he is eligible to win a Wii for perfect attendance..... This gaming system is probably out of reach for so many of these kids. I hope T does not win because we already have one.
I am thankful that my family could do this. The teacher gave me a hug.
Re: Christmas put into perspective for me today
That's a really sweet story. I'm sure those kids will always remember and have a true appreciation for the items you were able to give.
On a sidenote, if your son wins the Wii you could politely decline it and ask that they draw a different winner.
I will!
