School-Aged Children

gift for school bus driver?

This is the first year my son (1st grade) rides the bus. Do we give the bus driver a gift? If so, what? Would a Dunkin Donuts gift card suffice?

I'm not home when he gets on/off the bus (I'm at work, Grandma is there). He's the only one at his stop and I don't know anyone else who I can ask.

Thanks, ladies - and happy holidays to all of you!

Re: gift for school bus driver?

  • Honestly, unless your child has a 20-mile trip over treacherous roads to get to school, I think it's a little much to gift the bus driver.

  • One of my DDs rode the bus for two years and I gave her a holiday gift, just $10 to Starbucks but she really seemed to appreciate it.

  • I think a gift would be really nice.  Just because it's a short ride to school, doesn't mean they aren't deserving of a gift.

  • My kids dont ride the bus, However my aunt is a bus driver. I think no matter how short or long the ride is they are deserving. They get our kids to and from school safely every day. I would think a $10 gift card or a gift baasket for coffee/tea/hot cocoa/snacks would be appropriate. Which is the same thing we do for their teachers as well.
  • I agree that a small gift is appropriate.  We gave the bus driver a $10 Bruster's Ice Cream giftcard for Christmas, and a similar gift at the end if the year.  My DD's bus driver is an awesome lady who really looks after the kids, and she deserves to be remembered at gift time.
