I love my kitchenaide immersion blender. It does everything a regular blender does, but is also portable (like to use in a pot of soup). I can use it on anything without breaking it. They're only like $50 for a really nice one.
The $15 one at Target/walmart that is at least 500 watts. I have had about 5 or 6 blenders, some for $100, some for $50, the cheap one works just as well and last just as long. I have an osterizer right now. I use it every day and have for about a year. The ones I had before didn't do better or last longer, shorter actually in some cases.
We had a Kitchenaid too. It did sort of suck with ice. We haven't replaced it since I accidentally chopped off all the plastic nubs (happens, apparently, if you don't put the container part down far enough). I feel too stupid about it to let myself spend money on another one.
But I do have the Braun hand blender. It comes with an extra large blender compartment so you can use it like a stand blender too. The flexibility is nice. But, it doesn't do as good of a job as a true stand blender, IMO. I'd recommend it over the Cuisinart, as it has several speeds and more attachments.

You needed to create an AE to say this? And yes, it makes perfect sense to ask for help picking an appliance.
