Would you be offended if MIL got you a subscription to..?

Good housekeeping or something of the like.

I am left wondering if she thinks I am a $hitty housekeeper.   (Our relationship isn't puppies and rainbows...)

  • no because its not just about housekeeping

  • Not at all.  Have you read Good Housekeeping?  It is just like any other woman's magazine, I think, but I always perceive it as being marketed toward older women (ie your MIL).  She probably likes it, so she probably figures you would, too.
  • It's not a guide to how to be a good housekeeper. My mom gets it, and sometimes I read through it if I'm bored. It's definitely not geared towards your age, but it's probably more relative to you than cosmo, lol.
  • No. It's not really a magazine about housekeeping.
  • I have been receiving it for one year and just got a postcard that said "MIL (her name) updated your subscription".  I think I have opened 1 or 2 of them and let the kids cut pictures out : ).    She also saves me organizing articles.  Her family are article cut-outers.   They send DH all the articles regarding a sport that he loves (he owns a related shop or I would post....)

  • I don't think I'd be offended, but I'd be a little annoyed to be getting a magazine I have no interest in.

  • i think thats a good gift idea... With my mil I would secretly hope she would be offended... ;)
  • That--no...but I was slightly offended that she's been sending me Cooking Light for years--then again I guess it's no secret I am fat.
  • Offended- no. Roll my eyes- yes. haha.

My MIL got us a gift sub. to a religious magazine. And yes, we are religious, however this particular mag. lends to the left of our religion and we are quite to the right.

So, since DH didn't want to say anything to MIL, I called up the magazine and told them how I didn't want the gift sub. and if there was a way to tack on any reminder months onto MIL's sub. They were happy to do so!

Worse case senario, it screws up when MIL normally renews hers. Big Smile

  • I would not be offended. They sometimes have good recipes too.
  • No, I love that one.
  • I would be happy. I love that magazine & would love to not have to buy it.

  • No, not at all. In fact last year my MIL asked me if I wanted it, she got a special with her renewal, so I said yes, because I like looking at the magazine, sometimes I need a change from Family Fun, Parenting, Parents that I normally get. She renewed it this year for my birthday and I wasn't offended at all.
  • Nope. My mom gave me a subscription for chanuka.  I'm pretty sure it was free.  So if you want to be offended, you can be offended that she didn't spend a dime on your gift.  ;)

  • I love GH! It's a great magazine. Ditto what everyone else said. You'll like it.

  • No, but my MIL buys me cleaning supplies every time she visits....THAT gets a little stale.
