Pregnant after a Loss

If you were given $150...

and want to buy baby stuff, would you a) buy a bunch of small yet necessary little stuff or b) wait a while and buy the big stuff left at the end?

We have almost all the big stuff already - crib, infant carrier, Snap n' go frame, lots of swaddlers, furniture, books, but no little stuff - white onesies, bottles, manual breast pump, diapers, etc...

My mom gave us $ for Christmas and I want to make sure we use it well.

  • You said you have almost all the big stuff, what are you missing?

I am missing the infant carseat and I am saving up all the gift cards that seem to be trickling in.  My thought is it is easy to buy the little items as I go, but those big ones put a dent in the budget.

The over $100 items we still "need" are the long term stroller, the pack n; play, high chair.  Also, smaller but important: second car seat base, boppy, diaper bag...

All the little stuff just seems to add up so quickly!!

I'm not sure.  When I was pg with the twins, my friends had picked a shower date by the time I was 16 weeks.  I think they're afraid of me this time.  :(  Obviously I'm not expecting one, so we plan on buying everything.

  • The money we got from DH's parents is being used for the baby's room...carpet, closet door, paint, etc.  You could use the money for stuff like that, unless the baby's room is done?

That would be fun, but our house is still fairly new and we're not painting...  It's neutral tan like the rest of our house with kind of an oatmeal colored carpet.  We have most everything done in the room...  DH is on top of it all, not me as much.

  • We have a gift card with $100 on it that we're saving to see what we need before LO comes.  I am having a shower so we want to see what we get there before we go buying anything off the registry.  If we get the big items then we'll put the money towards smaller things.  If we get a bunch of smaller things then the money will go towards a big item.

So, if I were you I'd wait to see if someone is giving you a shower and then go from there.  Unless you're getting a super amazing deal on something most things go on sale pretty regularly.

  • We are getting money for Christmas as well and I will be using it to buy little needed items for LO.
