High-Risk Pregnancy

lovenox users / ladies with clotting issues - please come in (poll)

hi -

a couple ladies from SaIF suggested i post here.  i am not pregnant (m/c again last week).  this past summer i was d/x'ed with a prothrombin (sp) gene mutation (after i m/c'ed twins) and we thought adding lovenox to my protocol would prevent another m/c, anyway i m/c'ed again and am trying to figure out what's going on and what other ladies on lovenox did for their sticky babies.  can you please answer the following questions?  thanks so much, i really appreciate any insight

when did you start lovenox in your cycle?

what dose were you on?

what is your clotting issue?

did you have any m/c on lovenox?  what did your dr. say was the cause (bad luck, clotting disorder, etc.)?

any other words of advice

Thanks again.

Re: lovenox users / ladies with clotting issues - please come in (poll)

  • I have the same thing - prothombin gene mutation factor one (meaning one copy - I have it from my maternal side but my paternal side is fine).

We lost a baby at 20 weeks a year and a half ago because of it.  I didn't know that I had it and had a successful pregnancy before that.  I have had a chemical pregnancy, and with this pregnancy lost a triplet early on - no reason, and another triplet about a month ago due to T16.

I started 40 of lovenox as soon as I got a positive pregnancy test.  This will continue until about 6 weeks before delivery when they will switch to heparin.

FWIW, they can't definitively say that the blood clotting disorder is why we lost Ella.  It's only a guess.  Which is frustrating beyond belief.  But, I do my shot every night and hope for the best.

I'm so sorry for your losses and am wishing you all the luck in the world.

  •  After 3 m/c, several tests, bloodwork and working with a RE I found out I have FVL (homo). No previous h/x of blood clots in my family or with me so we were a little shocked.  The 3rd m/c was an ectopic.  Once the RE determined I had FVL and after all the other tests were done he determined that the best scenario for us was to have me start 40 mg Lovenox once a day after my quant doubled.  I begin the Lovenox right about 2-3 weeks pregnant since we were monitoring so closely.  I was really nervous this would work and for the first 13-15 weeks I didnt want to talk about the baby and didnt want anyone to know.  None of my m/c were on the Lovenox and all 3 happened with my OB and not my RE.  At first my OB was telling me it was more than likely just my body saying this isn't a "good" baby, but after 2 back to back and then a third I didn't believe it.  Neither my OB or RE ever said they though the cause was due to the clotting disease but they never said it wasn't.  I formed my own opinion and do believe it was due to the FVL.

My suggestion to you is get on the Lovenox as quickly as possible.  If you don't already I would go to a RE or a hematologist during your first tri at least.  A lot of OB's don't have the experience with clotting type issues so you could see the RE during the first tri and "graduate" to your OB during the second tri (this is what I did).  Don't give up.  It's a really tough thing to go through and is incredibly frustrating.  I've been in your shoes and am no sitting here 34 weeks about to switch to Heparin to prepare for delivery.  Best of Luck!

  • We had a MC and my hematologist suggested I start lovenox before concieving next time.
  • I'm so sorry for your losses.  I had two early missed m/c before being diagnosed with APS.  I found out about the first one at my first OB appointment at 8 weeks - baby measured 6w2d.  The second pregnancy started out good - we saw the heartbeat at 6 1/2 weeks, but then at my 10 week appointment there was no heartbeat - baby only measured 7w1d.

I started out with heparin as soon as I got my BFP and then switched to 40 lovenox after the first trimester and I recently switched back to heparin a few weeks ago.

I have APS (positive lupus anticoagulant).

No, I didn't have any m/c on lovenox.

  • First, I'm so sorry for you loss! I m/c my first pregnancy and the dr isn't sure if it's from my clotting disorder or not. I have mthfr. I found out when I was pregnant with dd because I developed superficial clots in my leg. I was started on lovenox as soon as I got a positive test. I am also on a baby aspirin and take it whether I'm pregnant or not.
