Pregnant after a Loss

Trying not to read into it...

So I went in on Friday for my first set of betas, apparently they told the Dr this morning they didn't collect enough specimen to run the test & I was due to go back this morning anyway for the second set. Went in this morning & finally a nurse at the doctors office just called me. She refused to give me the results of the test & said the doctor needed to review them further. The tone in her voice sounded a lot like she was delivering bad news. It isn't that difficult to look at the numbers: if it goes up decently that's good, if it goes down or stays level that's bad! I don't need an MD to review the numbers I can figure that out. I wish I could go have a big glass of wine right now! Attempting not to stress myself out.

Re: Trying not to read into it...

  • I wouldn't worry too much.  My doctor likes to see the results and tell them to the patient as well.

  • My mom had something like this happen a few years ago with a mammogram. They said they needed the doctor to call her back to get her test results. My mom was obviously a bit freaked out, but it turned out fine. The office just had a policy that ONLY docs could give patients information on test results; not nurses or other office staff.

I hope this is the case for you, too, and that you get great news on your numbers!

  • It is probably just their policy not to call results without a doctor reviewing them.  My doctor was out when I had betas drawn.  I asked if the nurse could call them to me and they told me not unless the doctor signed off on them first.  I hope that's all it is.

  • Don't worry too much.  I work in a Dr.'s office and we also house OB/gyn.  None of us can give results until the Doc has seen and signed off on them.
