Pregnant after a Loss

Heart Palpitations

Anyone having these?  Supposedly they are common in pregnancy due to hormones and increased blood supply.

I have been having them since about 8 weeks, but they have gotten more frequent the past few days.  I called the doctor this morning and they sent me to the ER.  After 4 hours there, they did not find anything abnormal.  I have a follow up with my OB to discuss and see if she wants to take it any further.

Getting sent to the ER was scary.  I am so glad all looks okay...I just wonder if there's anything to it.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if they discussed with their doctor.

ETA:  Also, I've only had about 3 caffeinated drinks this whole pregnancy so far.  I have low BP and drink about 60-90 oz. of water daily.

Re: Heart Palpitations

  • I had them a lot when pregnant with DS.  I haven't had them much now, but I cut caffiene out this time and that has always been a trigger for me.

  • I've actually had these a few times, but only in the past couple weeks. I plan on mentioning something at my appointment next week, but I doubt the OB will be concerned because they never seem to be worried about anything. My blood pressure is fine, so I'm assuming it's no big deal?

  • A few weeks ago I started having them. I had to go in for an EKG. Nothing is wrong.

  • The last two times I O'ed (including the time I got pregnant), I had palpitations.  They went away once I was KU, but lately my chest has been feeling "funny", like they could pop up again.  (My blood pressure is fine, too, & I haven't had any caffeine.)

One thing I try to stay on top of is hydration, because I know that dehydration can also predispose you to these.  As can decreased potassium, so I've been drinking Gatorade (& need to remind myself to buy more bananas).

But, yeah, I'd definitely mention it to your OB if they keep happening.  I'm glad that your ER check up was okay, but they can be SO scary.  :(

    Hope you feel better soon!!!

  • I have them quite a bit. When I found out I was anemic, Dr Google said they were common if your anemic.

  • I had heart palpitations quite a bit during my third pregnancy where I was also very hyperthyroid.  Maybe ask to get your thyroid checked if it hasn't been already.

  • I've only had a few and it's only one or two at a time.  They seem to come on after I've exerted myself.  I should probably mention it to my OB at the next appointment.

  • Glad everything is OK!  I had two the other day, but didn't know they were pregnancy related.
