Real quick, how does the whole books from the Library thing work? Do you just go, download the books you want for free and then have unlimited access to them? Or is it kinda like checking books out? Ya know, like you are only able to access them for two weeks at a time, or something along those lines.
I ask cause I am SO fresh out of gift ideas for my mom and obviously I'm down to the wire here. Last week I bought her a gift card for B&N, knowing that my dad is giving her a Nook for Christmas. When I told him I had gotten her a B&N gift card, he basically implied that I wasted money since she can download books for free at the Library.
My thought process was that after Christmas, they head south for two and half months, parking in AZ for about five weeks, but spending the rest of the time traveling in their RV. I thought this way she could stock up on books with unlimited access and not have to worry about having to find Libraries along the way to "renew" or check out ebooks. I then realized that I have no idea how it works so I could very well be wrong and have wasted the money on the gift card.

Re: NPgALR: ANOTHER question for Nook users...
Nevermind. I took the proactive approach to this one and just called the Library.
For anyone interested in an answer, the books (at least from our Library) are available to be checked out in three week increments. It is "Disappearing software" that is downloaded to the Nook. It can be renewed, but doesn't have to be returned, it just magically goes away. Technology these days, eh??

I'm not sure if the books are available forever on your Nook. I think it may depend on how the library system she's borrowing from works. The gift card isn't a waste though because not all books are available in e-format from the library, especially newer books.
Just a note, she can read books for free as a long as she's in a Barnes and Nobles store.
If you're looking for ideas for her have you considered getting her accessories for the Nook? I bought a cover for mine and I'm glad I did, I can't imagine how jacked up it'd be if I didn't have it. Some of the covers are super cute!
I did think of that, but my dad took care of all of the accessories as well. Ugh! I guess since she won't be near a library to check out new books, and won't be taking time to stop at B&N to read in store, I'm gonna be okay with the gift card. I shoulda gone with something more versatile like Target or something. I'm pretty crapped out when it comes to gift ideas these days...
