We're going to be going in Feb and my twins will have just turned 5.
I was reading some stuff online about the lines and kids under the age of 7 needing to wear a diaper due to accidents. This isn't really a problem is it? I was planning on bringing a change of clothes anyway.
I assume we'll need to rent a stroller while there? Did you pack drinks/snacks while in the park? Did you just carry a backpack for all of this stuff? How much stuff did you buy while there? My friend said we should bring an empty suitcase for the flight back. Any other words of advice, suggestions, or recommendations? TIA.
Re: Those that have been to Disney World. I have some ?s please
My kids were younger but it all depends on how you handle things. There is no way in hell that I would put a diaper on any child that is fully potty trained b/c of line, that is one of the craziest things I have read. The lines can be long especially if it is during a school break but go to the bathroom when you get there and make bathroom breaks to make sure your kids pee, I still cannot believe that someone would suggest a diaper instead of a bathroom break!
As for what you buy, you will buy more than you expect and some of it might be big stuffed animals but that depends on how you usually treat that stuff with your kids and how many other people you might buy something for. My DS got a big Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal (and I say big but not huge) and DD got a castle bank, the wand and sword from our breakfast with Cinderella, and a soccer and football I bought for the pool and that was all. I am not the person that is going to buy kids a big overpriced item every day of a vacation, I am all for spoiling my kids but that stuff will be wasted. Just make sure when you pack that you leave room to expand your suitcases and that the kids have a bag to carry their own stuff.

This is fuckingridiculous. If your potty-trained child can't handle the line, then take him out of the line. Go before you get online and after.
I'm in SHOCK that someone would think this is ok.
Diapering a potty trained kid just in case because of a line is perhaps the stupidest thing I have heard in a while.
You can go Disney crazy or enjoy your day/s there. Check out the disboards (google it) for some saner advice.

Yeah, no. I didn't put a diaper on my PTed almost 4 year old and didn't have any issues. DS1 was almost 2 and not PTed. I was impressed with their baby changing rooms though!
We went with Grammie and drove from AL to FL. We would have def needed an extra bag!
We brought water and small snacks but had the meal plan and didn't really need all the little snacks we brought. Though they were nice to have. Water was a must! We went in August!!
We just got back last week. We had an awesome time! Here are my recommendations
1) ABSOLUTELY get the stroller. My 3.5 year old needed it and it helps to move around the park faster. note: it is cheaper to rent for multiple days so do that at the beginning. I didn't but I saved my receipt from the first day and they gave me the discounted rate on the second.
1.5) BEST ADVICE - bring something colorful to tie to your stroller. It made it 1000x easier to find in the clusters of strollers.
2) use the Fastpass option when possible. We walked right onto rides that had 55 minute wait times.
3) Don't over plan. most books will tell you to have a plan of attack but we found it better to plan a few "must do" things and play the rest by ear
4) I brought a water bottle and snacks and was really glad to have both. I just carried a messenger bag.
5) My son tended to want small things vs anything large so we were able to get everything we bought (including a 18 in stuffed animal for baby to be) in our carry ons that were full on the way.
6)Get to the park early - way less people in the morning
7) plan for down time. We did one day at Magic Kingdom, then Mickey's Christmas party the next night, and Sea World the next day. It was kind of a lot for my 3 year old and if we hadn't had all day on the 2nd day to bum around he would have freaked out.
8) be prepared to wait for EVERYTHING. I am so sick of waiting right now that i could scream.
9) Visit Mickey in the Judges Tent in the Toon town (?). It was the easiest way to see any character the whole time
10) we really like Sea World. Not busy at all...very interactive. No need for a stroller.
11) the diaper thing is RIDICULOUS! There were plenty of restrooms and none were really busy. Just use one before getting in a long line. What a joke.
Let me know if you have other questions.
You'll be fine without diapers.
Some advice:
1. Rent a stroller outside the park. You get a better stroller for less money and it doesn't look like every other one there. I used and recommend orlandostrollerrentals.com. They will deliver and pick up form your hotel.
2. "We don't have room to take that home!" is a great way to not end up with a ton of big, overpriced souvenirs.
3. Use this to see what the anticipated crowd will be: https://touringplans.com/walt-disney-world/crowd-calendar
If you are flying- don't purchase snowglobes as souvenirs. Its the whole no liquids above 3.4 ounces carry on rule.
I guess if packed right you could put it in checked luggage but it would be chancey knowing how they handle the baggage.
We took our kids last year (DD was almost 4 at the time and DS was 14 months) and we are going again in 3 weeks.
We did not have any issues with line and our DD - who'd been potty trained for a while.
We take a stroller. This time we are taking a city mini double. DD will go back and forth with walking/riding, so I know it will get used. There is lots of walking and without a stroller, she'll ask to be held.
We always take a small softsided cooler with snacks and water.
We don't buy so much that it can't come back in our suitcase. Plus, I usually assume that we'll use the space for diapers and swim diapers for the things we bring home.
I have NEVER heard of the diaper thing and that is just plain ridiculous. If you kid needs to go to the bathroom, get out of line. No big deal. There are bathrooms everywhere. Plan your bathroom breaks.
We went last Feb (btw, President's Day is one of their busiest weekends so now I learn, which is when we went). DD was 3 and still talks about it.
I agree with the above posters.. rent a stroller and put something identifiable on it. There are stroller corrals and stroller corrallers. You may just park your stroller and get done with an attraction and cannot find your stroller because one of the corrallers moved it to the correct place.
A word of advice... buy your T-shirts and some of your mementos at an off-site place like Walmart or somethin... SO much cheaper and cuter! Save your money for the must haves.. like the ear hats.
If you plan your meals and drinks, it can be cheap. There is a place (I think it is a Pinnochio theme restaurant) that has "meals" and they are fairly healthy and cheap. There are water fountains everywhere.
Best thing... RELAX and have a good time.
Oh... another thing... bring your own camera. You can buy a card and people there take pictures which you view online later... but they are WAY EXPENSIVE! If you didn't take your own pictures, you will be surprised and have no pictures because they kind of hold you hostage to buy their pictures.
We went in May and DD had just turned 5. We also had our 2yo and 3mo with us but a lot of help from family as well. My advice:
1) Rent a stroller from off site- my 5yo used it the most. The other 2 could get carried and she was too big.
2) Get to the parks at opening- way less crowds. Go to Toon Town at it's opening (10 I believe) to see characters.
3) We took snacks in back packs - but I had to have one for the baby anyway. I agree with a pp, I didn't need that many snacks.
4) Have somewhat of a plan of attack. Visit a touring site and learn what days are expected to be the most crowded at the different parks when you're there. The disboards are awesome!
5) Putting a diaper on a 5yo is insane. I would never do it. DD would never allow it. There are bathrooms everywhere!
6)Learn about the fast pass system and use it!
I grew up going in Feb. You're not really going to have lines to wait in. I don't think we ever waited more than 30 minutes for anything, and that would have been rare to even wait that long.
I definitely would bring a stroller or get one somehow. My 3 and 4, almost 4 and 5 year olds never walk, even at the zoo or amusement park, but I can assume at disney world, with nonstop walking for days, they're going to want to ride sometimes.
I can't imagine putting any of my kids in a diaper at DW, even my 2 year old. They're potty trained, and can hold it for a few minutes if necessary. As I said, the lines really aren't crazy in Feb, so there's nothing to worry about there.
