Lost DS at Bass Pro Shops yesterday- had to have a code Adam

It was probably one of the scariest moments of my life.  We had just taken pictures with Santa and we were going to pay for the person behind us in line because she was so nice.  My husband and I were trying to figure out what the packages were and in the 5 seconds I stopped looking at Carter he walked off.  I looked down, saw Addie and not Carter and started asking where he was.  The wonderful people at Santa grabbed his photo that we just took and started running around the Santa area looking for him.  The manager closed the store, and had his security team look on the cameras for him.  It was very organized and professional.  Turns out he had walked over to the boats, climbed in one, and was playing when he was found.  Needless to say we were frantic but the people at the store were wonderful.

So, PSA of the day, kids can walk away, even from the most attentive parents, in no time at all.  We're very thankful that he's OK and have learned a very important lesson.

  • So glad he is ok!  That place would be easy to get lost in anyway!

  • We had a similar moment recently. She was found sitting on the toilet, pants down and shoes off yelling "Mommo, Mommy, MooMoo's pooooooooping!" It really takes no time at all for them to be lost. I'm so glad it all turned out okay.
  • That does sound scary.  I am glad they handled it well.  I always liked the Bass Pro Shop.  My kids adore it.   I am actually surprised that this hasn't happened to us as DS1 is a "runner."

  • I have anxiety just walking into that store.  You take 5 steps away and you're lost.  And, around every corner there is something enticing your child to wander away and look at it.  I can only imagine it's worse during the holidays!  Big hugs, that must have been so scary!

  • I can't imagine how scary that can be! I love how you Americans drop everything and close all stores top look for lost kids. They'd probably do nothing but shrug here.

Thank God he was ok Smile

Oh and that was really nice of you to pay for the person behind you! Santa is expensive!

  • Wow, scary.  So glad he was ok.

GHM, I will apologize b/c I laughed at your story and I cannot imagine how scary it was but the idea of losing your child to find out they ran to the bathroom is pretty funny since I know she was found ok.

  • BTDT - When my DS was about the same age as yours. The absolute scariest feeling in the world. So glad it was handled well and the outcome a positive one.
