So LO is about 4 and 1/2 months old (born 7 weeks early). We are heading out of town to see my family for the holiday and my mom who had surgery last week is going to still be in the hospital. She keeps talking about how excited she is to see LO, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with taking LO to the hospital to see her. So I'm wondering what you would do? Is it a definite no no to take a preemie into a hospital unnecessarily? Any help would be great as I need some HELP!
Re: Question about visiting mom in hospital
I would contact the hospital and see if they have a policy about children. Some hospital do, they don't allow children under 18 in hospital in during flu season, etc.
Personally I would not take my DD do the hospital for a visit. I would wait until they are home and rested. Good luck with your decision.
Honestly, It depends on a lot of things. Why is your mom in the hospital? If she has something contagious, or it's because of an illness, I think I'd opt for bringing her a video at most. If you get sick, you'll bring it to LO as well. If she's there because she broke her ankle it's a different story. Even more of a different story if she's there because of something life threatening. I'd be SUPER cautious going through the hospital though, if you do go. We used to put Evan in his carseat with the cover over, and pull that sun visor thing down in front of him, I'd keep him that way until getting to your mom's room, pull him out there and only there. I think I'd lean towards letting her see but not hold him, just because she's been in the hospital for a bit, and use lots of hand washing. Moby wraps are good for protecting LO too, you can pull the fabric right up around him while in the halls etc.
