Hi mamas,
I'm gonna post this on the CD board too but since there are several of us using PFs, I thought I'd ask here first.
So, Libby is |thisclose| to walking and we've noticed she has a pretty wide stance. I think it's fine and totally normal for a wee one just learning to toddle. But my mom, who's all into ergonomics and body mechanics, is worried that it's due to the bulkiness of her CDs and therefore going to cause long term issues like hip problems and/or bowed legs. She said she was potty trained early because the pedi told her mom that the bulky CDs were causing her to be bow legged. I am not sure I buy that. Otherwise, everyone born before 1970 would be bow legged, right?
Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone here is 1) worried about this? 2) Changing which CDs you're using once LO became more mobile.
Today, I've tried a bikini twist fold on the PFs and it is much trimmer in the crotch. I'll have to see if it's causing any chaffing though because it seems that there a more creases in between her legs than with an angel or newspaper fold. I suppose I could buy some fitted or contours but honestly I don't want to buy more diapers if I don't really need to! I am using Premium Sized PFs and we have a stash of Infant Sized ones that I could try with the newspaper fold laid in the wrap to see if it's more trim. Ideas?
Re: CD Mamas: PFs + Walking Babies
I can't imagine that it could really make a difference. I have read about ppl having the same concern with other stuff (rolling over, laying flat) in cloth. BUT, I don't really know what a premium prefold looks like. Jack wears pockets 90% of the time (daycare) and I trifold an infant size prefold the rest of the time (except overnight = overstuffed pocket). And I recently added training underpants/rubber pants to my home rotation since he does so well with EC.
Jack has been taking steps for 2 weeks and just started consistently moving in a way I would consider "walking" in the past week. his stance is so infant looking that I can't imagine comparing it to what his stride is going to look like in months and years. I guess I would have to ask myself, does the diaper look like it's inhibiting her in any way? I would guess no since she is making movements towards walking at such an early age but if you are worried maybe change things up for a while to see if it makes a difference.
