So Santa was coming around on the fire truck tonight and I wanted to take the girls out to see him. We went to the end of the drive way to wait for him around 7:00 (that was the ETA) after waiting 5 minutes the girls started to complain so we went in the house. I was really sad because these are things I was unable to do because of my parents. I look foward to all the little things to do with my girls because it is like I get to do it for the first time too.
Anyway, we gave baths and after baths our neigbor called and said 8:45 they should be here. I asked the girls again if they wanted to go and that it would mean a lot to me if they could go out and see Santa on the fire truck. I said that I didn't get to do it as a child. DD#1 asked why not (what do you tell a 4 year old? Gee Kay your Nana was a drunk and your Gunner was workaholic and never around) I told them we could sit in the car and we didn't een need to get out. DD#2 was very excited and so DD#1 followed. We listened to Christmas music and sang while we waited. When we saw the flashing lights DD#1 scream "SANTA!!! LET'S GET OUT OF THE CAR!' so out we jumped, fire trucks stopped at our driveway (busy main road) and gave the girls candy canes. DD's were so excited and smiled so big. DD#1 ran inside and told her grandparents (IL) all about it.
I hope they now have a new happy memory.
Re: Hopefully just created a happy memory for my girls
Awwww! That sounds so sweet!
We just got back from a Christmas light display on a trail in the woods, it had several bon fires and hot choc and the night had a nice chill. It was wonderful walking through the trail, looking at the lights with our friends whose son is DD's "first boyfriend." They were so cute holding hands on the trail! (Sadly, they will be moving in Feb). But likewise, I hope its a fabulous memory for the kids...
That is awesome.
And I know all too well how that feels. I hope that one day my childhood will stop coloring every thing I do with my child(ren).
You take my ovaries, I take your yarns.
