Hawaii Babies

Last one, I promise! I want this for Libby's 1st Bday!

It's $35 on Amazon and $70 at Diapers.com. It says it's for ages 3 and up but reviews write that they're using it on 1+...I am not sure what they think  the choking hazard could be...the balls aren't small enough to be swallowed. Perhaps if a baby pulled off one of the velcro tabs it could be a choking hazard, but we'll keep an eye on her, so I don't think that's an issue.

  • jack loves crawling through tunnels (they have one at daycare that they pull out on occassion).  I think my mom picked up one to be a christmas gift for him.  I just looked one up online and it also says 3+. hmmmm.

Not sure what that would be 3+ but she will probably enjoy it.  Maybe there are small snaps or the frame comes in small pieces??

Yeah, I've noticed several toys say 3+ but that Libby already enjoys them...I think if a toy has ANY small part that could potentially come loose they have to say 3+. For example, we got her this Circo Bath Baby and she ADORES it. It has eyes that are a separate part than the face (i.e. not painted on, but a different material plugged into the face) so, potentially, those could pop out and end up in her mouth.

The bath toys that came with it do have a cap on the bottle of bubblebath (not really bubble bath, but marked to say that) that comes off...so we just took that piece and put it up. And I took the little animals (turtle, duck and dolphin) too since they're squishy plastic and therefore probably have phlalates and I didn't want her chewing on them. When she's older, I might let her use them in the bath...but right now she's still very much in her oral phase so I prefer for her not to be gnawing away on things not intended to go in the mouths of babies. She loves the baby doll though and is totally fascinated by her diaper...which is fabric and has velcro tabs on it. Too cute! I also picked up some cute jammies for the baby doll that have owls on them...so after bathtime we sometimes will change her into her jammies, which Libby loves!

That said, we're always supervising her and know immediately if she's gnawing on something! The only time she's ever left unattended with her toys is the occassional 5 minutes in her crib while I'm in the bathroom, etc. And in her crib we only keep "baby toys"...nothing that's marked 3+...so softies, fabric books, taggies, etc.

  • OMG, she'll LOVE it!  And you'll have that for years to come.  You can always put the balls away, but for the tabs - just watch her anyway.  She'll be amazed and will LOVE crawling through this and playing peek-a-boo with you.  Great find!
  • we got just the ball pit from one of my coworkers, and I found that LB was trying to crawl up the sides, essentially turning the thing into a giant hamster wheel.  So, we put it away for awhile.  Not sure what the choking hazard would be, but he just didn't seem to get it yet.
