Repelling issue?

I'm hoping you guys can help me on this one.  I have some Monkey Doodlez that I think are repelling, but I have no idea why!  I bought them new, and my LO is just about at the size that I can start using them.  I put one on him, and he leaked out the leg within 5 minutes.  The urine was just beading up and rolling out!  I have only ever washed them in EFF blog detergent.  I tried squirting some water onto a clean one and it beaded up and rolled off.  No idea why they would be repelling.  Could it just be a size issue, that LO isn't big enough to push the urine into the diaper?  Is that how it works? Or are they truly repelling?  If so, what do I do?  I can't imagine stripping would even help since they've never been washed in anything but EFF detergent, but I'd try it if you guys think it would work.  I'm at a loss here, and I really want to like these diapers!  Thanks!

Re: Repelling issue?

  • How many times have you washed them though? I know they're new, but some diapers need to be washed several times before they become absorbent. Look at the manufacturer's rec, GL!

  • As pp said, they could need to be washed more if they are made with natural fabrics  If they're all synthetics (microfiber inserts, etc...) then one wash is fine and if that's the case it probably is a size issue  Dropping some water on a diaper isn't a good test because it needs some force behind it to truly simulate pee.

  • Thanks guys.

I did prep all my diapers before LO was born, but I can't remember how many times I washed my Monkey Doodlez.  I'm now noticing that they're the bamboo ones, so I'll wash them a few more times before I resort to stripping.  It could also be that they're still slightly too big for LO, although they seem to fit.

Lotte134, I didn't drop water.  I used a squirt bottle, so there was a little force, but not much.  I will try again with a syringe and see what happens.

    Thanks for all the advice.
