is he just not ready?

I have a 2.5 year old DS.  He's shown lots of interest in his friends going to the potty and he's been pooping in the potty for months.  So we bought him underwear.  Since Wednesday morning he's worn underwear with sweatpants on (since it's so cold).  At naps and overnight he's still wearing pullups or diapers.  He's pooped in the potty successfully, but he's yet to get to the bathroom for peeing in time.  He never tells us ahead of time.  After he's already wet himself, he tells us and we finish on the potty.  But I figured after nearly 3 whole days he'd be able to tell us without an accident first.  Do you think he's just not ready yet?  Should we just keep trying and he'll eventually get it?  I'd love to hear advice from anyone who's gone through something similar.   Thanks!!!

i'm really new to this, but what i am doing is setting a timer and having him go to the potty and try to pee every 30 minutes.  it is working well.

We did start taking him to the bathroom on regular intervals yesterday.  It seems to be working well.  Finally had a few successes.  So I think we're going to stick with it.
