anyone have Leapfrog EXPLORE

We got this for my son as a gift, and I wanted to know what people thought.  Do we need to buy the leaplets right away?  I am thinking that there isn't anything for him to do unless we add stuff right away.  Is that true?

    DD got hers for her birthday & I would at least buy a game for him that you can put in it & play right away.  It does come with an app already installed that you can trace letters & has a pet on it that you can change everything, eyes, ears, tails etc. It only takes a few minutes to hook it up to your computer & get the leaplets downloaded.
