I delivered both my boys at Franklin Square. I was actually pretty happy with both labor and deliveries. With one delivery at Frankin Square I labored, delivered, and stayed the rest of our stay in the same room. With the other delivery, I labored and delivered in one room and moved to a smaller room (although still quite roomy). I have heard mixed things about GBMC. I heard you start in a great room then move to a closet sized room. A friend who delivered there said the room was so small they actually had to move the bassinet they baby was in, in and out of the room if someone wanted to come in or leave.
Re: Has anyone deliverd at GBMC and Franklin Square?
I've only delivered at Franklin Square. Had a great experience, seeing how traumatic everything was. I was given one of the last birthing rooms (full moon that day!). I stayed in that room for three days. I was under the care of several nurses, and doctors during my stay long stay. I highly recommend FSH staff and doctors. Annabelle was in the NICU for 12 days, and they were so wonderful and took great care of her.
I know the PPR at FSH aren't that big, but you still have room to move around.
My room at GBMC definitely wasn't small and no where near "closet-sized." The bathroom was giant and the sofa that turns into a bed was adequate for my 6 1/2 foor tall husband...
But, I understand what the person may have meant when they said that they had to move the bassinet around. The placement of the furniture in the room, is to be efficient for the nurses, not necessarily great for entertaining guests. The room is rectangular with the bed in the middle. On one side of the bed is a rocking chair/recliner and the table with the long arm that comes over the bed so you can eat. On the other side is the sofa/SO bed and a night stand. If you take the tour you can see the set up.
As for the hospital in general, I have nothing but WONDERFUL thigns to say about GBMC. Thier attending physician had to catch Evie becuase the on-call doctor was still getting scrubbed up when I delivered. He was great. Very calm and reasurring, especially considering I was having an emergency birth with a doc I had never met before. And the NICU team is awesome. (But hopefully you won't need their services!)
I especially agree with the bolded part. We routinely had 4-5 people and it was no issue but they all hung out on the "bench",. We also put things in drawers and that freed up a lot of space. The bulky rocking chair got in the way but we just pushed it in the corner. The bassinet definitely had to be moved around throughout the night to let DH up to pee or what have you, the space is just awkward, but I didn't see it as an issue. Youre in a hospital, not a hotel..
I had a fabulous experience at GBMC, I have nothing but great things to say about my stay.
