Recommend building set

My DS1 has a Melissa & Doug wooden unit block set and Lego Duplo.  I would like to get him something like Tinkertoys or maybe a magnetic or bristle type building item.  What do you guys like for your kids?  I was leaning towards Tinkertoys, but the reviews say the new ones break a lot.

We don't have them yet, but I've heard wonderful things about Magna Tiles:

They aren't cheap, but they are supposed to be well worth it!

We'll probably pick up a set soon.

Not magnetic or bristled, but I'm a teacher and my kids love wedgits.  They are very easy to build with and they play with them every chance they get.
