DD has always been a terrible terrible napper, but for the most part a good sleeper at night. She does not get no where near the amount of sleep in a 24 hour period that she needs. Most times I will BF her and she will fall asleep, and you lay her down she wakes up instantly. Maybe a few days a week she will take a good 2-3 hour nap, but that is not consistent. And now she is starting to go to bed later and wake up earlier.
Any tips? Is there light at the end of tunnel? lol
DS was always a great sleeper and still is...can't be lucky twice can you? ;-)
Re: anyone with LOs that DO NOT sleep?
I'm with you - my DD1 was a fantastic sleep immediately (and still is). I never really experienced sleep deprivation the 1st time around...
But I knew that wasn't really 'standard', and I wasn't going to get that lucky with #2. He is doing better, but not sleeping 'the standard amount', but I swear his 'normal sleeping pattern' changes every week, so I'm just riding it out. "This too shall pass" - that's my mantra. But, really, after watching DD1 grow up, their sleep/developments/etc changes SO fast and SO much, that I am not spending any time worrying about it.
I really and truly believe with every fiber of my being that it's true that "sleep begets sleep" - the better they sleep, the better they sleep. But if you somehow get into bad napping and/or nighttime sleeping, it's just a huge snowball effect. My DS had been doing ok (not great by any means) prior to Thanksgiving, but then that whole weekend threw off his naps and his bedtime and it was downhill from there. We had some seriously bad weeks of sleeping and I had no idea how to fix it. I posted earlier today about "The Baby Sleep Book" by Sears. That was what ultimately helped me sort out what his issues were and fix them. *Knock on wood* he's been doing MUCH better and we are all happier now that he's not an overtired crabby patty all the time ;-)
Good luck! I totally understand how frustrating it is and I know that we could just as easily tumble back into bad sleeping (or no sleeping!) at the drop of a hat...
