Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Introducing wheat...

when did you introduce wheat into LO's diet?   I didnt specifically ask my pedi at dd's 6 month well visit, but they always give you a packet of information to take home and in the packet it says "Egg whites, wheat, peanut butter, fish and orange juice maybe more likely to cause allergies, but this is controversail.  Avoid adding these foods to your baby diet until 1 year of age"

we use Gerber cereals and the next stage for "Sitter" is mixed grain, which contains wheat.  just curious if you feed LO cereal, if you give mixed grain or stick to singel grain cereals

Re: Introducing wheat...

  • We gave DD whole wheat toast at 7 months, she has since also had wheat pasta with no problem.

Your pedi would hate me, then.

LO has had all of these by now.  She gets a scrambled whole egg and whole grain toast 2 -3 times a week for breakfast, grilled cheese sandwiches on whole grain.  She's had small tastes of peanut butter, but I limit it more for the choking hazard.  We shared grilled salmon for dinner last weekend, and she loves to suck on orange wedges.

I think the avoidance of foods has contributed more to the uptick in food allergies than early introduction.  I wish the AAP would do more to make sure physicians have the latest information and are more consistent.
