Dumb cooking question..

Why do you need a rice cooker? Is it for non-minute rice? I just do the brown rice with one cup boiling water. Does it taste better in a cooker?

My gf loves her rice cooker and cannot imagine not using it. I just do the rice/water/pan thing. Works for me.

I've been told it's one of those things you don't know your missing til you have one.  I've had rice from a rice cooker before though and I couldn't tell much of a difference...a little less watery maybe.
