Stocking up ?s

What did/are you stocking up on before baby gets here? A few of my friends suggested to start buying diapers(just like one box with every paycheck) to stock up. I'm working full time now, but will be cutting back to part time once the Guppie gets here...so if there's things I can buy ahead of time to stock up I want to... Plus I think it'll save me some money to buy things over time. Any Suggestions?

TIA girls!!! xoxo

  • Diapers are a great idea as well as wipes.  If you will be formula feeding, I would watch for sales but be sure to check expiration dates and don't buy too far ahead.
  • Loading the player...
  • Wipes, desitin, aquaphor, diaper genie refills, and California baby body wash/shampoo are constant on my shopping list.
  • The problem with buying too many diapers is that you don't want the baby to outgrow them before you can use them!  I agree on the wipes too...we get ours at Costco and use them for everything now - cleaning his hands/face/highchair after eating, etc.

This is what I was going to say.  As well as, you're not sure how big the baby will be so you don't know what size you'll need.  I have some size 1s that I've stocked up on, but, beyond that, I don't have many diapers.

Yeah my friends said to buy different sizes (not too many Newborns or 1s as I guess you get a lot of those usually at the shower). So I figured I'll just have like 2 boxes of each to start with.

  • I didn't get a single pack of diapers at my shower.  I was shocked.  Two boxes of each should be great to start with.

I know!  We got wipes, a diaper genie....but not a single diaper.  Bizarre.

  • Be careful of buying to many diapers in any size.  Phoebe grew so fast I doubt she would have went through an entire box of newborn diapers.  But Rowen was so small he only went through a couple sizes up until he was potty trained.  Also be careful of buying lotions.  I bought all the same things I used with Rowen and got the big sizes of each of them.  I even got a bunch of wipes and diaper rash cream trying to be very prepared and its all been a huge waste.  Phoebe has such insanely sensitive skin that the only lotion I can use on her is Cetaphil and I had to start using cloth wipes with just water because the sensitive pampers ones bothered her to much.

Don't open the packages and keep the receipts just in case.  You should be able to return if you don't need that size anymore.

  • I didn't really get diapers at my shower either.  I registered for some Pampers, but my mom got the wal-mart brand so I returned those. and the ones from my diaper cake were target brand without the package so i don't even know what size they were.  I had my mom take them to a women's shelter since I wasn't going to use them.
  • pretty much ditto what everyone else said. I have a massive stockpile f huggies and J&J baby wash that I was hoarding throughout my pregnancy. E's skin is so sensitive that I can't use it one her, so every baby shower I go to gets a bath kit. I had the same prob w/ diapers. I was planning on using pampers, but had to use 7th gen for the first few months. She's tolerating other brands mixed in occasionally now. If you trust yourself not to use them, maybe buying a $20-$50 target/walmart/BRU gift card every paycheck could work for you.
