So, we've been using our OsoCozy Unbleached Indian Cotton PFs in the Premium Size since Libby was about 5 months old and we wash every other day. They're starting to feel rough/less soft and I am wondering if there's any thing I can add to the wash cycle to soften them up a bit. Has anyone tried vineagar or another additive to soften them (obviously not fabric softener like Downy, etc.)? They're still fluffy, just not as soft.
Re: S/O PFs...need advice!
could it be a little build up? try doing an extra hot cycle to clean ones. I did a "strip" with RLR because we were having serious stink and a little relpelling. A nice added outcome was that the prefolds and inserts got softer.
But if you are not having other issues I would just try some full hot cycles to see if it makes a difference.
I'm interested, too, since ours never feel soft. We line dry and they come out much more stiff than when we use the dryer (which is pretty much never since electricity is ridiculously expensive here and our dryer doesn't seem very efficient anyway).
Also, aside from RLR, is there anything people add to the wash cycle to keep them smelling fresh? I've used RLR and it didn't really seem to make a big difference... maybe I need to use something more regularly?
We do a cold rinse and then a hot wash with detergent everytime. And what is RLR? We've had no stink or repelling issues. We usually use the dryer on "heavy duty" to dry and then sun whatever has some staining.

RLR is a laundry additive usually used to strip diapers. I have read online that it's basically just washing soda and it gets mixed reviews. I think just like detergent the various stipping methods work differently depending on your water. Hmmm, if it's they aren't stinky maybe don't worry about it (not broke, don't fix it - haha) but no harm would come from trying a couple hot washes no detergent tosee if it makes a difference.
RE: line dry, yeah I have no advice for that. our PFs could stand on their own during the summer when I line dried. I just tri-folded them and used them anyways.
