Re: ??? Weekly Check-in ???
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?Tired! I think I'm always tired. I work too much, even when I reduced my hours. I think I just end up working a lot from home (but usually from 10pm-4am), which sucks cuz when I think about it, I don't wanna be spending my time at home working! I wanna spent time with my LO and sleep!LO is pulling himself up a lot! I think he'll be pulling up to standing all the way up soon because right now he's pulling himself up on something short, then standing with his feet on the ground/legs straight, but then his body bend down still holding the shorter "ledge", so it looks like someone standing and bending over touching their toes (like an inverted V).
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?9mo?
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Can't leave the room when he's trying to nap, or he'll cry/fuss (like usual).
(5) What BR item have you splurged on?Ummm, his onesies for his Christmas present. Oh, and we *just* got a rocking chair last week. A bit late =P I wish we had it when I was pg--but it's so comfortable!
(6) Are you making new friends now that you're pg or a mom? What's your social life like?Yup, a few more mom friends than before, but still not super close to them. My closest friends have remained the same but I do end up hanging out with them less, esp since they work late and I need to be home for LO's bedtime routine by 7:30pm so we can't do late dinners like we used to.
(7) What traditions would you like to pass on to your children?Every Easter, we have a Easter bash with a huge chocolate bunny. For Christmas, we have the tree & presents & stockings and we'll go to Christmas in the Park or check out Christmas lights or something, plus caroling with the extended family. We'll be trick-or-treating for Halloween once he's old enough and spending Thanksgiving Day with extended family. We also always watch fireworks for 4th of July and I'm hoping to celebrate Lunar New Year as a family even though my family wasn't really consistent on that one. I'm listing holiday traditions here. Not sure what other traditions we have off the top of my head...
(8) What's one thing that isn't really necessary, but you love anyway (like a wipes warmer)? My Boppy pillow, the rocking chair (which we've had for only a week =P).
*sigh* I had my whole reply typed out and then my browser froze and crashed.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 8 months old next week!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Me? Tired. Ben has been away on a work trip so I've been doing the solo parent thing (thankfully he's back tonight!), and Dash woke up SCREAMING at 5am this morning and never really got back to sleep. So I'm a little worn out...
The boys are scooting all over the place on their bellies and working hard on crawling (yeah I know, they're a bit behind most babies but they're on a very normal developmental path for twins), and I'm wondering if we'll see that action before Christmas. It's so hard to tell, isn't it? Could be tomorrow, could be 2 months from now!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Nada - they don't generally do 9 month checkups in Australia, so nothing until they're a year old.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? The hunger strike. I have no idea what caused it, but they seem to be easing out of it - I'm mostly giving them their absolute favorites (sweet potato, pumpkin and fruits) and they're giving in to temptation.
(5) What BR item have you splurged on? The stroller. We got it on sale (33% off, which is incredibly rare for this model) but it was still pricey. And it's worth every.single.penny. I think to myself literally every time I use it, "Man I'm glad we bought this thing!" If anyone here ever has twins, the Baby Jogger City Mini Double is the way to go!
(6) Are you making new friends now that you're pg or a mom? What's your social life like? Social life? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA*gasp*HAHAHAHAHAHA! Ahem. Sorry about that. I don't have much of a social life, really. The most I can manage is to meet up with a friend or two for lunch a couple times a month (no dinners, because everything goes to hell if we miss Will and Dash's bedtime at 7pm). I'm not really making new friends - I think that usually happens in play groups etc., and all the local ones are clearly structured for SAHMs (they only take place at awkward times during business hours). But I think I've probably become closer to my existing friends who also have young children, so it's all good.
(7) What traditions would you like to pass on to your children? Hmm. I don't know that we have a lot of traditions in my family. Well, we probably do but I can't think of them LOL! The only one I can think of is watching King Kong (the original one) while decorating the Christmas tree - it's weird I know, but I always loved it as a kid and Ben's laughingly agreed to carry on the tradition.
(8) What's one thing that isn't really necessary, but you love anyway (like a wipes warmer)? This was a question I submitted, and I've now been sitting here for 15 minutes trying to think of something to answer lol. We didn't really buy a lot of extra stuff, so I don't know... Does my camera count? We did buy it specifically to take photos of the boys (other things as well but they were the biggest reason) and it's certainly not necessary but I LOVE having it!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 5 weeks already!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? SO much happier about feeding. i wrote a long f/u post about it, but no more excessive spitting up (hope it stays this way), no more screaming during burping, and BF'ing continues to get better - I'm only pumping 1x/day now, mostly to let MH give E a bottle, which he (MH) enjoys, and to give my nipples a break. still working on getting rid of the thrush though.
some little milestones I guess - E now follows things with his eyes, and when he's screaming to be fed and I put him down on the pillow to get situated, he'll quiet down for a bit - I think he knows that food is coming!
he weighed 9lb 7.5oz at his 1 mo last friday! still 50% for height and weight (birth weight was 7lb 6oz)
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 1 week to check on his poor little butt (make sure the abscess is healing well) and his 2 mo in January - shots then.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Feeding. And my mom just left yesterday, MIL is here for a few days, but then I'm on my own for the first time since bringing E home...
(5) What BR item have you splurged on? Hrm...I don't think we've really splurged on anything yet. I did finally break out the snap n go, which I was sad we didn't get secondhand. Will probably end up splurging on a stroller at some point. Ooh, or a woven wrap.
(6) Are you making new friends now that you're pg or a mom? What's your social life like? No new friends yet, though I did meet some really nice moms at a new parent group/class at a local baby store last week. We're going again tomorrow. In terms of social life, hah. We've been holed up at home, due to the season and E's lung history. Had a few friends (< 5) visit while we were still in the hospital, but haven't seen anyone since. We're slowly starting to venture out more, and will be having our first visitor at home this Friday.
(7) What traditions would you like to pass on to your children? Hmm. My grandfather made a certain soup noodle dish on birthdays, with a fried egg. And my extended family always spends Thanksgiving and Christmas together (though MH and I only partially take part in now, since we see his family too). We used to decorate the tree the weekend after thanksgiving, though we stopped doing that once my sister and i were older. I love eating moon cakes in August (for the...harvest moon festival, I think it is? I don't even really know - just that we get yummy moon cakes! hah). ...and I'm sure there are other food-related traditions i'm not thinking of right now, haha,
(8) What's one thing that isn't really necessary, but you love anyway (like a wipes warmer)? I don't think we've really gotten anything that I would categorize as really superfluous - I'm sure we will eventually. I would like to get a nicer camera at some point, but that'd mean I need to find the time to learn how to use it!
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? almost 5 months
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Milestones....yikes! This was a big week for us, specifically on Sunday. First of all, he got his first haircut! Early, I know, but believe me....if you had seen his rat's nest of a head you would have agreed that he needed it! He was such a good boy for it, too! We also went to see Santa at the mall. He was great fr this, but a little tired, so he looks bored/sleepy in the pic (I'll try to PIP later, it's on my home computer and I'm at work right now). And......we started veggies! Again, earlier than I planned, but wow, can this kid eat!!! I roasted and pureed some sweet potatoes on Sunday afternoon and he absolutely gobbled them up for dinner. He already leans in and opens wide when I even get his bowl and spoon out, so I guess he was ready!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? January
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? Sleep, always sleep these days. He does great going down to bed, but has been waking about 2 hours later (just to fuss), then again about another 3 hours later (to feed). Then he's been getting up for the day slightly earlier, at about 5:30am. My mantra these days is "this won't last forever, this won't last forever!"
(5) What BR item have you splurged on? Definitely our stroller (UppaBaby Vista). We absolutely adore it. Even MH comments all the time that he's glad we splurged and got the one we really wanted, 'cause it rocks, even in the snow.
(6) Are you making new friends now that you're pg or a mom? What's your social life like? I have no real social life except for the fact that MH and I made friends with another couple in our childbirth class. They had twin girls 4 weeks before us. We have become great friends, and now get together about every other week. We often switch whose house we're at and usually have dinner (which is often at about 5:00, since all the babies go to bed around 7:00). It's super nice to have friends with babies the same age, and we all completely understand where we're coming from with stuff.
(7) What traditions would you like to pass on to your children? There's a lot of traditions associated with Christmas that we'll keep, like each person getting a personalized ornament each year that goes on the tree first before all others, hiding the pickle on the tree (a German family tradition where a pickle ornament is hidden in the tree and whoever find it first on Christmas gets an extra gift), and the food we eat (ham and latkes, the "sacrilegious holiday dinner" that MH and I started a few years ago since he's Jewish and I grew up Christian). As far a non-holiday traditions go....I'll have to think about that. I'm in Christmas mode at the moment!!!
(8) What's one thing that isn't really necessary, but you love anyway (like a wipes warmer)? There's probably a lot that we have that's not entirely necessary, but I can't think of anything at the moment! Maybe as simple at the changing table? I know lots of people go without or use a dresser top, but we wanted a dedicated changing table for the simple reason that we're really tall, and I found one that's much, much higher than any dresser I've seen. It's great not having to bend over. And Henry loves being on the changing table, too. He loves being to close to mama or daddy's face. It's our best playtime together.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 13 months!
(2) Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? He's started dancing and singing to some music! lol the walking is getting much better. Also learning all sorts of fun things - like, "oh Daddy left my high chair close enough so I can reach the table - what happens if I pull on the placemat? Oh, I spill the water and all the cereal that was on that!" He LOVES raisins. He eats them whole, apparently, as we find out while diaper changing.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? 15 mo checkup
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? teething - poor kiddo. and the gymnastics during diaper changes! eta: he's also started throwing temper tantrums out of nowhere!
(5) What BR item have you splurged on? I just bought another stroller. I'm becoming one of those people! We also splurged on the crib and changing table, but the crib changes into a full size bed and the changing table flips over and becomes a dresser.
(6) Are you making new friends now that you're pg or a mom? What's your social life like? I think so. Social life is non-existent pretty much though.
(7) What traditions would you like to pass on to your children? We are still working on this.
(8) What's one thing that isn't really necessary, but you love anyway (like a wipes warmer)? Most things we have aren't really "necessary", but we loved things like the exersaucer and jumperoo that kept him busy and entertained so we could do other things.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? Feel pretty good. Just hard to move around a bit, and I had a small bit of swelling last week, but it looks like that has subsided for now.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?Next Tues. 36 week appt. GBS test and first internal I believe. Then weekly after that.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?Choosing a pedi. We've interviewed a couple, but DH and I haven't agreed on one yet.
(5) What BR item have you splurged on? I would say our cloth diapers. Most of our big ticket items were so graciously bought for us. The one thing that I've bought a bit of myself is our diapers. I got some BumGenius that are just TOO adorable that I cannot wait to see on our little girl. I can see how CD gets addictive now!
(6) Are you making new friends now that you're pg or a mom? What's your social life like?No new friends yet. All our friends are back in CA, so we are sad not to be able to go through all this with them close.
(7) What traditions would you like to pass on to your children?Hmm, good question. I'll have to think about this one.
(8) What's one thing that isn't really necessary, but you love anyway (like a wipes warmer)?A video monitor. Our room is literally 10 steps to the baby's room, but I really wanted the video monitor so we wouldn't have to walk in the room and disrupt baby even more if she was just moving around a bit. Haven't gotten to actually use it in action of course, but DH and I did play with it for a while.
(9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
27w3d... 4 days til my 3rd trimester!! yay!!!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
failed my 1 hr. glucose screening. was bummed out. but passed my 3 hr. gtt and am soo happy it's one pg issue i DON'T have! hahaha yay! had pressure yesterday so had to go in yesterday for monitoring 'cause of the cpp. but everything is fine.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
2 weeks for routine. and then every 2 weeks after that. i'll have one more u/s to check on the cpp.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
the 3 hr. gtt. but it wasn't so bad as i thought 'cause the hospital has couches and so the lab gave me a pillow and i slept between each blood draw. oh yeah. and sunday i had pretty bad pregnancy rage. i threw my cellphone and a pillow at DH and i cried about my upcoming shower. hahaha freaking hormones.
(5) What BR item have you splurged on?
? we bought our crib (yay!) on sale... so i don't think i would call it a splurge?
(6) Are you making new friends now that you're pg or a mom? What's your social life like?
many of my friends and cousins are moms already... hahaha so basically i'm one of the later ones...
(7) What traditions would you like to pass on to your children?
church on sundays. fam lunch on sundays. holidays... we're still talking about it and working things out.
(8) What's one thing that isn't really necessary, but you love anyway (like a wipes warmer)?
? not sure. i'm more bare bones. my sister keeps telling me i need things, but i tell her that we didn't use the stuff for her kids... hahah MH on the other hand wants a glider.
(9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins? what was your recovery like? i'm tentatively scheduled for a c-section and would like to know how people recovered from that... i read stuff online, but i would love to hear people's personal experiences.
hawaii 10.2008 plan ;P married bio ???
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
She's nearly 11 months...on Christmas Day!
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
She's still cruising the furniture and getting brave and "letting go" and standing on her own. That said, we've also had more bumps and bruises because of this! She also seems to have more "words"...like pup, book, cup, cat, nose, eye, etc. They're not perfectly prononuced, but we know what she's saying. She's really into music right now (since we have holiday music on a lot these days) and does this little dance that is SO adorable. I am going to try to get it on video!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
Just her 12 month appt. next month...more shots!
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Clinginess and teething. She's been a total cling-on...she doesn't want you to hold her, but she wants to be on your lap...KWIM? It can be frustrating when I just get in the door from work and need to change into my comfy clothes and she's crying and hanging on my leg! And she's teething. Again. This time? I think her 1 year old molars are starting in!
(5) What BR item have you splurged on?
I just had to have this cotton and silk rug for her nursery. It was $350. It's now rolled up and stored away...needing to be specially cleaned. Arg. What was I thinking!? My $50 foam mats are WAY better!
(6) Are you making new friends now that you're pg or a mom? What's your social life like?
Oddly enough, yes. I have developed a friendship with our photographer and the woman that I donated my breastmilk to...and just this week I met a woman who has a baby 2 months younger than Libby, uses the same OB practice as me, has a pug and had a DW in Mexico...we were CHATTING the entire time like "OMG! We're so much alike!" So we're FB friends now and planning a playdate for our LOs.
(7) What traditions would you like to pass on to your children?
That family is important. We have some holiday traditions...black eyed peas and greens on New Year's Day, dying Easter Eggs and doing a hunt, Christmas traditions around opening gifts, etc. and we'll incorporate all of those. We also want to start some of our own...one is that I plan to do a photobook for each year (one for her to keep and one for us to keep and this year, one for each of the grandparents). I totally stole that idea from Kelle Hampton. I also want to take a family trip/vacation every year, even if it's just camping in the next town over! We'll probably do a family portrait every year too. And when my kids are older, I want to do to little getaways with each of them...so like mommy/kiddo or daddy/kiddo. I think that one-on-one time is SO important and it's one of the things I remember fondly as a kid...those times when it was just me and my dad fishing or me and my mom at the beach, etc.
(8) What's one thing that isn't really necessary, but you love anyway (like a wipes warmer)?
Wipes warmer for sure. Also twillight turtle and sound machine. We also loved the Tummy Tub even though she outgrew it by 8 weeks old.
(9) What questions would you like to see in upcoming check-ins?
When do you think you'll be ready (if ever) to TTC the next baby?
TTCers: Which cycle are you on? Where in the cycle are you? What, if anything, are you doing/trying for TTC success?
