I only took two tums thinking that would be enough at about 2:30, but now the heartburn is back with some serious force, not sure if there is a "rule" on when I can take more?
OK. I am obvisouly not a doctor, but I remember reading the bottle and it said don't exceed more than 10 a day. So I was taking 3 or 4 at a time. Anyway, during my last OB appointment my OB said I was fine to exceed the recommended dosage and to take enough at a time to make the heartburn go away. Now, i won't go crazy and I would definitely check with your OB, but that made me feel better knowing that if I took 12 a day instead of 10 I'm not hurting the baby. But again, maybe give your doctor's office a call tomorrow and get their recommendation. Heartburn is the devil.
I second the Zantac. Tums stopped working for me around 33 weeks. The only draw back is it takes about an hour to start working. I've heard drinking milk works for some people.

I'd skip the Tums and go with Zantac or Pepcid. If you can't get to the store I'd try 3 Tums (that was always the minimum amount that I took). I have to take 2 Zantac a day (150) and lately they aren't cutting it either. I'm going to ask my OB for Rx stuff tomorrow because I'm tired of the heartburn and puking in the middle of the night from the awful reflux!

Mine are no more than 8 in a day. My ob told me I could take 2 more an hour after I took them, if they didn't work but then I would obviously have used up 1/2 of my total for the day. I usually take 2 and then try to wait 2 hours and take 2 more, if that still doesn't work I will take the pill they gave me. I have only taken the pill 3 times whille pregnant and that was when I was almost bent double in pain from heartburn. I feel so bad for daily sufferers, normally not pregnant, I mean.

This. Also chewing peppermint gum helps the burn right away.
but, tums are short lived, definitely go for the zantac! I wish I had of learned how awesome it is with DS1.
no need to suffer at all from heartburn.
my mood improved a million percent when I started the zantac and realized I could be heartburn free.
