Hi, I am new to the board. At my 13 week ultra sound and screening for downs syndrome the doctor said that the baby's jaw was severely recessed and small. That led to lots of tests including a CVS which hurt like hell. We got the results on Friday, it's a girl and there are abnormalities on her 16th and 17th chromosomes. Only 1% of babies have abnormalities on their chromosomes and most miscarry in the first trimester. We are currently waiting to see if by some miracle the chromosomes aren't missing major information, but the doctors said that it is more likely that this will end in miscarriage or the baby will have no physical or intellectual abilities if she makes it to birth. My stomach hasn't grown in two weeks, I no longer feel pregnant. I think she has already left me. Either way I will most likely need to get a D&E, has anyone gone through this? Is it bad? Should I wait until after Christmas?

Waiting is so hard!  Did they see a good heartbeat?  I hope somehow things work out and you can take your baby girl home!  I'm in the process of miscarrying right now naturally so won't need a D&C.  From what I gather they really aren't any big deal and get things over with quickly, which can be nice.  Several gals opted for D&C so that they didn't risk miscarrying on Christmas which is understandable.  Prayers to you for answers and peace in your heart!

Im so sorry for what you are going through. I hope that things work out and your baby will be with you for 27 more weeks.

I have had a D&C, I was supposed to be 12.5 weeks but baby passed at 9weeks. The procedure itself was quick and somewhat physically painless. I did have to have a repeat procedure for retained product which is not common.
