Mushy or bad blueberries?

I was making cereal and blueberries for DS and I noticed they were a little on the mushier side but I didn't think that they were bad. I bought them Thursday at Whole Foods. Anyways, after he had already eaten a bunch in his highchair , I noticed a moldy one in the container of the rest of them that I was rinsing. I really don't think I would have given him a moldy one since that was the only one that I could SEE that had mold on it. But I know his were mushy. I am so upset! I hope he doesn't get sick! Has anyone had this happen?

Re: Mushy or bad blueberries?

  • DS lives on blueberries, literally.  He eats them with everything!

I have given him mushier ones, and he is fine with them.  I've also given him ones when there was a moldy one in there (it was all the way on the bottom).  He didn't get sick or even notice.

I hope your LO is fine, I think he will be =)

  • I give DD blueberries all the time, she loves them but I notice they last longer than other berries.  I just picked two with a tiny speck of mold on them out of the container this morning and went on my way feeding her the rest of them.  If they are really mushy I toss them and pick out good ones but DD has never gotten sick from eating blueberries.  I rarely find any that DON'T have at least one or two at the bottom with a few spots on them.

  • I'm sure your LO will be fine.  FYI: I have started giving DD frozen blueberries...they have the same nutrients and are the perfect freshness.  I just let them thaw in room temp for 5-10 mins.  Here in Indiana, it's very hard to find good ripe blueberries this time of year.  By the time they get trucked in from Cali or wherever, they are not so great. So we go for frozen.
