I got a question about Zero. He's still got his UTI and on meds that were started today. I noticed he now voes in the liter box 10-15 times in 2-3 hours and does alittle squirt.  

First off im concerned hes not drinking enough thogh I give him wet food and he eats it, but hes not peeing alot just a squirt or drop at a time. Is this to be concerned? He is peeing but not alot. How long until the meds show some improvement?

Anything else I can do for him?

Im sorry your little man isnt feeling better yet.  I dont like little drops but as long as he is still producing a little squirt that is good.  Besides the antibiotic what is the name of the other medication they sent him home on??

Because this is rarely caused by an infection in a healthy adult cat the antibiotic is likely not going to solve much except some inflammation and we usually prescribe it as a "just in case".  There are other meds that can help decrease tone in the urethra hopefully making it a bit easier to pee. Unfortunately these symptoms often last for ~ 5 days no matter what we do which is why blocking is such a concern but a high percentage of male cats in that period will start with complete blockage.  Did they do a urine test to look for crystals???  Sometimes bladder stones can lead to these symptoms but not always.  As long as he continues to pass urine he will likely recover from his symptoms but I would like to hear that he is passing more than just hte few squirts.  Its great that he is still eating etc so make sure all those habits stay the same bc if that were to change that might be a sign he wasnt feeling well.  If he is food oriented you could try adding a touch of tuna juice or low sodium chicken broth to his water to encourage him to drink more. 

If the drop at a time urine continues you may need to bring him back in for more aggressive treatment. Im so sorry your dealing with this.  It is so stressful but you are doing a great job watching him so keep up the good work and hopefully he will be over this hump in no time! Thank you for your reply, I am so stressed out because I can't make him feel better.

Right now he's on the drops called Claravox.. or something like that.. The other pill is an Muscle relaxer/ anixety med.

He did a pretty good 2-3 squirts this morning, still sitting for a long time, but has not cried and doesn't look like he's in pain.

I will try the tuna water, he likes the S/D wet food the vet gave us, I have been adding some water to that to get him to drink more.

They did do the urine test he did have some crystals, but the vet said as long as he was peeing things were good. He even called yesterday to check up on him.

I am so scared that he's not going to get better, and I don't have the $$ to make him better. I can't afford $1400 right now with me just getitng back to work and Jay's job not allowing OT and paying $15 less an hour than his job he got laid off from.

Anything else I can do?

I think you are doing everything just right. Try to relax as much as you can, some thoughts are this is triggered by stress so the more relaxed you are for him the better! It is good he is still producing some urine so keep up the good work and support him through this. Its good he isnt crying or uncomfortable

 If he does god forbid become blocked maybe you could talk with your vet about atleast unblocking him and seeing how he does instead of the 3 days in the hospital?? Not the best case scenario but atleast would unblock him. Again this is worst case scenario so keep your chin up and keep feeding him and giving his meds!!
