Hi! Posting from PG after IF. During IF treatments I was trying to lose weight and was adding strength training, but while stimming I couldn't really do much per my RE. Now I'm 7 weeks - have first u/s tomorrow and assuming I get the clear I'd like add back my strength training. In a perfect world I'd build some muscle in my legs and arms in the next 6-7 months and get more toned. I'm also currently doing the elliptical and walking on the TM about 3 times/week - though I'm hoping to increase after my ms eases.
Anyways - what ST did you do? Did you get stronger? increase your weight over time? What did you feel uncomfortable doing?
Oh...and if your from my local board (nor cal), please be shhshh...I'm not out over there yet and am not ready to be.
Re: Strength Training during PG?
Yes!!! Please do continue to strength train. The only thing you need to be careful of is lifting/spraining too much. Also, later on in the pregnancy you are not suppose to lay on your back. But there are tons of lifts you can do standing up and sitting down.
Strength training will be sooooo good for you not only during labor but for your recovery and getting back into shape after the pregnancy.
This! You'll need to modify a few things as your belly grows, but keep it up. Work within your limits, listen to your body and stop if you feel dizzy, same as before you were pregnant.

I listened to my body. Certain exercises are not safe during the later stages of pregnancy. I ordered a couple DVDS and followed the strength workouts for each trimester (Buff Mamas-to-be and one other that I can't remember). I was able to run until 28 weeks or so with my first pregnancy and then continued various other exercise until birth. I really think that staying in good shape helps the whole process as well as the post baby weight loss. Good luck!!

I found these awesome Gabrielle Reece strength training videos. I did it while pg with #2. It was pretty tough.
With #1 I had time to go to the gym and I did weights but ditched the free weights and did machines because they were assisted. Of course I didn't do any of the ones that would impeded my belly in any way.

You can pretty much just pick up where you left off - with the whole "listen to your body" rule. Nothing is unsafe in the beginning; you are perfectly fine to do on-your-back exercise until at least 20 weeks. Same with ab exercises - clear it with your doc, but I'm good to keep crunching to 24 weeks (watching for ab separation).

I worked out my entire pregnancy. I ran daily and also did strength training with weights (for arms) and crunches on the stability ball several times a week up to the day Sarah was born. I had the easiest pregnancy and delivery and the doctors said it was due to my being so fit. I was 38 when our daughter was born, so definitely advanced age...
