I bought some air dry clay, rolled it out and cut out circles with a large cookie cutter. All of that looks fine - but it was really hard to press his hand deep enough to make the handprint noticable.
Has anyone had any luck with anything like this? What type of clay did you use? Would it work better if I used a clay that I have to bake? All of the kits I saw came with air dry clay.
Re: Handprint ornament fail
I bought this one at Walmart. https://www.sculpey.com/products/kit/deluxe-handprint-ornament-kit It is one you bake.
I haven't done it yet though.. They were only $5!
Happy Birthday, little man. We love you so much!

That's pretty much exactly what mine look like...you can just barely see the handprint. I felt like I was going to hurt him while I was doing it. I paid $4.20 for the clay with a 40% coupon and already had the cookie cutter. I was going to buy the kits - but I need to make 8 of them and didn't want to spend $40.

I used Crayola model magic - https://www.amazon.com/Crayola-Model-Magic-Single-Packs/dp/B002VBXL6Q/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1292272467&sr=8-17
It worked well - and they are in single packs that are just big enough once you flatten them. I was supposed to make 8 also but only ended up making 4 since Bryce kept clawing at the clay. After 20 attempts to get the 4th one - I gave up. I paid the $8 for the kit - but it is on sale for $4.20 right now! It is really soft too. You can see where he was trying to dig into them with his pointer finger. . .
They came out okay I thought - these are the ornaments without the ribbon on them yet.

I'd love to see! I was thinking about painting them but wasn't sure if that would mess it up or not! LOL!

Yes, AW your craftiness
Here is a picture of mine - I'm not sure why the handprint shows up so much better in the picture. They do not look this "good" in person, lol

I had to get DH's help - he held DS while I did the handprint. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. We did handprints/footprints for Mother's Day and the handprints were not easy to do, lol!
