With DD, I had so many complications after delivery (needing a second surgery to stop internal bleeding, infection running 102+ fever) and so many drugs that DD wasn't supposed to have, that I didn't really get a chance to breast feed for the first week, and by that time I realized my milk wasn't coming in at all. She ended up FF. (NOt that I have a problem with it, I just really wanted to BF.)
Was anyone else able/did you BF #2 when you didn't/couldn't #1? Is there anything I can do to improve my chances?
(We'll be having a planned c-section with hopefully no complications, if that makes a difference.)
Re: Was anyone able to BF #2 but not #1?
I didn't breastfeed ds 1 because of anxiety issues...ended up pumping about 1 oz a day for 6 weeks until I decided this was too much work for so little.
I have been successfully ebf ds 2 for 6 weeks! Good luck!
Just take it day by day. Mini goals are very important. I would set goals, at first, of 2-3 days! It helped

DS1 had latch/weight gain issues, and went to FF at 3 weeks. DS2 I've had a much easier time BF with. His latch was much better, and my supply has been good for the most part (drink lots of water and I eat oatmeal every morning to help). I'm not dead set on EBF much longer though, more because I am having an increasingly difficult time keeping DS1 entertained while I nurse. But that's a different problem!
FWIW, all of the nurses/LC in the hospital said it is extremely common to have difficulty BF with your first LO but be really successful with a second LO. You are just more comfortable/less stressed because you know what having a newborn entails. GL!
My oldest could not nurse, he was born with a cleft lip/palate, but I pumped exclusively with him. My 2nd son was the first child I breastfed & I made it about 8 months.. he was an around the clock snacker & with my 3rd son I breastfed a little over a year. I found it so much easier than pumping & making bottles especially with a little one under my toes ; )
I'm sure hoping! We had latch issues, I hope we don't again. I will NOT be pumping this time.
I obviously don't have experience with this yet, but my sister just had her second child. She had serious supply issues and had to supplement from day 1. She even tried Reglan, before she finally just quit at 4 months. This time around, she is good to go! She's even asked me what this weird pressure she was feeling was... that's called engorgement honey!
