Heated Seats...

Are heated leather seats in my car safe for me to use?

I was just thinking about that the other day....

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • Yeah heated seats don't raise your body temp so you should be fine.
  • I use mine, but I keep it on the "low" setting and turn it off when I feel warm enough :)

  • Heck yeah I use my heated seats - they're like a portable heating pad full of awesomeness!  Keeps me toasty in winter and helps with lower back aches too - win win!

  • I have to admit, in my wildest paranoid moments, this one never occurred to me.

Yes, I would think you are fine.

  • Why wouldn't they be? I couldn't live without my heated seats here in Vermont! How could they harm the baby?
  • I'm paranoid this pregnancy and I thought about this the other day.  I used the setting for the back on low & kept the one on the seat off.  Once, I warmed up, I turned it off.

  • I'm glad you asked this... I was thinking the exact same thing when I was driving yesterday, but also thought that the risk must be minimal as they wouldn't increase my body temperature.

  • I use them!  That's my favorite part of my car!!
  • Actually you shouldn't use any heat at all. In the car or anywhere else. Just bundle up extra warm.

  • Oh man.   it was bad enough that the OP asked this, but so many people admitting they thought about it to makes me weap tears of mirth.

  • I'm glad you asked this because I have been wondering the same thing. I read in several places that electric blankets shouldn't be used in pregnancy because they emit small amounts of radiation that can be dangerous. Do car seat heaters use the same technology? If so, shouldn't this also be dangerous? Especially when used multiple times a day... I used the car seat heaters when TTC but since I found out I'm pregnant I have decided not to use them until I ask the doctor, just to be safe.

  • It doesn't seem too paranoid to me. I was just at the massage therapist and told her I'm pregnant and she said "well, I guess no heated table blankets for you" and then also I've sat in massage chairs that say "do not use heat setting if pregnant"

    plus:
    -no hot baths
    - no hot tubs

so I just thought I'd check since the heat from the car seat is directly on the low back.

     Thanks for the responses!

  • I have to admit that I too thought about this the other day, but it hasn't prevented me from using mine.

I do know that they can cause decreased sperm count for males, but that should be an issue for most of us at this point!
