dyson, is it worth it?

For those of you with a Dyson, do you think they are worth the extra money? We've gone through three vacuums in the past five years of living at our house. We have two ever-shedding dogs and I vacuum daily. Our most recent vacuum has just now sh*t the bed. We tried taking it apart several times and fixing it ourselves but now it's not working at all. I see a lot of good reviews about them and I'm looking at the animal hair Dyson with the purple ball. Do you like yours? I read that they last forever too, do you agree? I'm getting sick of buying new vacuums every so often and would like to get a good one that lasts and doesn't loose suction.

  • I have the Dyson Animal Ball and I absolutely LOVE it!  I think it was $549 at Bed Bath and Beyond and we used the 20% coupon.  Worth every penny thus far.

  • We have a dyson (not the one with the ball) but we love it.  We do need to clean out the bottom part because some of my hair gets caught.  But so far it is great.  And we also got our at BBB and used the 20% off.

  • We have the Dyson Animal, and absolutely love it. When we first bought it, we vacuumed our living room with our Hoover, the old vacuum we were replacing, and then vacuumed with the Dyson. We could not believe how much dust and hair the Dyson picked up that the other vacuum didn't. We have a lab, who sheds a lot, and the Dyson has definitely been worth the extra money. We haven't had it long enough for me to chime in on whether or not they last long.

  • Yes!  Worth it!

Kohl's has great sales on them too.  And if you have a Kohl's chrage you could get 15-30% off depending on the offers they have going on.

  • I have the Dyson DC17 Animal (not the ball) and really like it. ?I used a 20% off coupon from BB&B which really helped with the cost. ?We have a yellow lab who sheds a lot too, and it is good for picking up pet hair. ?There is a good pet hair attachment that comes with it too.
  • Awesome! I think I'm going to get one then. It sounds worth it. I have yet to read something bad about any of the Dyson vacuums.

  • I have the purple Animal Dyson and it works great! We've had it for over 5 years now and it still runs like new. We've never had a problem with it! I do have a secondary vacuum for the kitchen (so I don't have to lug the Dyson out every time) and have gone through 3...nothing compares to the Dyson thus far.

That said, I hate how heavy it is... but it really works well, so I guess I shouldn't complain ;) All the attachments are pretty great too!

  • Absolutely!! I LOVE ours! We've had it for about 2 years now...and with a cat and dog (lab) that shed a crazy amount, it's a lifesaver. I bought ours on Woot.com for about $220

  • In one simple word ... YES :)

I picked up the pink one 2 years a go & love it

  • Totally worth the money! We have 2 dogs that shed bad- I vacuum every morning with LO running around! I love it!

  • We have the Animal DC17 one and love love love it.  Works as good today as the day we bought it (about 3 years ago).  The only negative is that it was a bit of a hassle in our last house on the carpeted stairs because it's heavy....but I still wouldn't trade it for anything.  We have a central vac system where we are now and I don't use it, I much prefer my dyson.

You will be shocked how much animal hair and dust it picks up the first time you use it on what looks to be an already clean carpet!

  • I'll be the dissenting voice...not worth it to me. Three years in and it broke. And it was never so great that I was interested in spending the money to replace it.

What!? Did you send it in? They will repair it for you or replace the broken part.  Something was clicking on mine and I was able to use the troubleshooter guide on the website but yeah send it in.

Anyways OP, I have the ball and love it. It's been about 4 years and it gets daily use on carpet and hardwood. I have pets and my DH is messier than my toddler. It's easy to clean out, mine is pretty light and it swivels around all cool.

  • We just bought the Dyson 17 on Black Friday and it is wonderful.  It is by far much better than any other sweaper that we have owned.  We have decided that Dysons the brand for us!  My husband was the first one to get it out and use it (LOL).  He loves it too.  We are so excited and it got a ton of stuff out of our carpet that we had just recently swept with our old one.  So worth it in my mind.  And with Cedric and all the crumbs everywhere all the time, let alone all my hair everyere I really wanted a good sweaper.
