f/u FTT

To all the questions last night.

I was BFing her and the pedi recommended against it.  In the first month of BF, she only gained a few ounces, and was having diarhea, blood in her stools, spitting issues.  They said I could do the chicken/rice diet, but I was so tired and at my wits end I said no.  She never latched well, she bit and my nipples were bleeding every day all day.  it was awful.  I was so emotional, that doing a diet like that would have pushed me over the edge to PPD, and the pedi saw that.   When I saw my OB at 6 weeks, he was actually happy I decided against it because of how much of an emotional wreck I was/am.

The last few days have been better.  I have a moby, and on Friday i wore her for her naps.  she did better.  Same on Saturday.  Again a bit better.  We had a couple of crying fits, but I was able to get her through them without the all out fit she had been having, probably because of the wearing her.

today was a great day.  She napped for 2.5 hours this morning and 4.5 hours this evening, in her crib.  We will see what tomorrow brings with my husband at work.  She responds a lot better to him than to me right now.

The pedi thinks that she is allergic to both milk and soy that is why we did not go to soy.  She was going to put us on neosure, but then there is too much milk.  She said that more than likely she will be on neocate.  We will see.  I am hoping it is just blood tests, discussion and nothing too invasive.  (My son had an endoscopy at 18 months due to GI issues, and we eventually found through skin testing he has a milk allergy)

Re: f/u FTT

  • I'm sorry you're dealing with this.  Sounds a lot like what I dealt with after my DS was born, except the FTT.  Somehow he was a good gainer, but absolutely miserable and in a lot of pain.  both of my kids have enterocolitis - milk protein intolerance.  I also switched to formula when DS was about 6 weeks old, it was just way too much to handle for me.  We went the allergist route and all they did was blood tests.  They allergist and Ped have been pretty laid back about it and haven't required further testing.  We just eliminate and so far, so good.  GL!
