High-Risk Pregnancy

GD and excess fluid?

i'm almost 37w pregnant with #2 and scheduled for a c-section in 17 days.  i had a NST this morning that didn't go well so they made me do an u/s (i have weekly u/s as well), which showed that i have excess fluid.  i've googled and it seems that uncontrolled GD can cause this, but my numbers are all well below where they should be (i take one dose of glyburide at night to help with my fasting # and the remainder of the day is diet controlled).

has anyone had an issue like this?  i'm really nervous about not making it to my scheduled c-section.

Re: GD and excess fluid?

  • I posted about this a few days ago... I'm in a similar boat, just not as far along as you. I am curious to know more, and will be asking my Dr. at the next appointment.

  • I had excess fluid with DD's pregnancy. What specifically do you want to know about it? I can tell you I was admitted at 36w4d because of the high fluid and was told I was a walking time bomb - if my water broke at home, my cord could prolapse and DD might've not got the oxygen she needed. But, I ended up delivering the next day for other reasons.

This pregnancy, my fluid's been in normal ranges.

Did they tell you what your level/number was?

  • I didn't have GD but I had extreme excessive fluid - polyhydramnios - which lead to pPROM at 25 weeks and delivery at 27 weeks.   Feel free to ask any questions.
  • thanks for the responses.  apparently i was measured at a 21 for fluid level on sunday, but on tuesday i was measured at 14, which is consistent with where i was the week before.  my OB thinks it was either a mis-measurement on sunday or the baby had moved to a different position, opening up a larger pocket of fluid.  i had another u/s today and my measurement was between 14-15 again.
  • I'd love to piggyback on this question.  I just had a growth ultrasound this morning and the technician said that my fluid level was 27.  She said the high end of the scale is usually 21.  Should I be freaking out?  She didn't seem horribly worried; she did a biophysical profile and said that LO is still okay.  I'm just a little shell-shocked.
