3rd Trimester

Anyone else have pressure in Rectum?

So I believe I had my first bout with BH contractions last night, but on top of the tightening belly w/ cramping pain that lasts a few seconds, I also feel a lot of pressure down there in my rectum.... feeling as if I kind of have to go to the bathroom (#2) but can't although it doesn't feel like constipation but more of a pressure pain.  Is this part of contractions or dropping?... I am almost 33 weeks so confused.

Re: Anyone else have pressure in Rectum?

  • I have had exactly what you're describing off and on since about 34 weeks.  I have no idea what it is.  I'm planning on asking my OB at my appt. tomorrow.

  • We practically have the same due date and I've been feeling the same thing. It's only at night when I'm relaxed and not thinking about anything else other than my inability to fall asleep that I notice it.

I don't think it's contractions (for me at least). My guess is baby has flipped into proper birthing position and possibly dropping. I don't know for sure... but one thing I know is that I have to pee a lot more since I've noticed the extra pressure.

    Good luck! :)

  • I felt that as my LO was dropping. Its just more of an uncomfortable feeling than a pain, right? I found myself on the toilet and not able to go many a time while he was dropping.

If it is accompanied by pain from your back into your uterus (like menstrual cramps that radiate from your back) then you should be concerned and calling your doctor... that could be a sign of early labor.

  • Thanks ladies! I felt a little alone on this.  I do think I've dropped a little, so that may explain the pressure.  For the girl who is experiencing the same thing and is seeing her ob tomorrow... would love to see what she had to say.  If I feel more pressure and have more back pain, I will call my ob...
  • I have had the same feeling with both of my pregnancies from about 27 weeks on. The further along you get, the more annoying the pressure seems to be. It has to do with the baby getting bigger, having less room & getting deeper into your pelvic area, so when they are resting in certain positions, it adds more pressure. When I was pregnant with DS from about 36 weeks on, I swear it felt like I was going to have a foot pop out & dangling at any moment. I had only dilated to a 2 at 38 weeks & I stayed that way until after being admitted to L&D after I went into labor. HTH!
