Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Latex free diapers? Hypoallergenic?

Any recommendations? Seventh Generation? I saw a torn open bag so I felt them through the opening. THey don't feel nearly soft enough to not chaff a baby's bottom. What about the Earth's Best diapers? This week was the first time I had seen those...

Not a fan of Pampers by the way, besides LO got a mild rash from just one Dry Max diaper that somehow ended up on her from daycare so I'm a little bit leery of those since LO has a history of sensitive skin...and the Huggies diapers just don't fit her waist unless she just had a growth spurt. At the moment the Huggies tabs in the front don't even go across her hips completely.

I switched LO to a cheaper diaper that fit her better than Huggies Snug and Dry and consequently set off a latex allergy...not surprising since I have a latex allergy also...but annoying all the same. So the doctor said to start using hypoallergenic diapers and cover her in diaper cream to help protect her skin.

Right now we are using the Huggies Pure and Natural but the rash is not getting better despite the hypoallergenic diapers and creams (I'll be calling the clinic again first thing in Monday morning if there's no more improvement by then). There was slight improvement on switching to the hypoallergenic diapers then nothing until I started using the Palmers Butt Butter to help heal the skin rather than just protect it. Now the rash has stopped improving.

  • Have you thought about switching to cloth? So many of them are made to be easy as disposables now.

this exactly, I would think even AIO (all in ones which are just as easy as disposable ) would have no latex that would touch the skin if there was any at all

  • DS has very sensitive skin and we primarily use cloth. We do put on disposables at night and switch between Earth's Best and Seventh Generation--we've never had problems with either

  • We use cloth primarily because of our son's skin allergies.  The only rash he's had since was a yeast rash and that was from antibiotics.  (We've had him in cloth since he was 3 months old.)

Just for you to check out, here's a website that talks about cloth diapering today.  It's not just prefold diapers and pins.  There's no swishing in toilets or carrying around a bleach bucket anymore.

  • I was also going to suggest cloth.  I know that most DCs won't do cloth, but just doing it at home and on the weekends can help a great deal when you are fighting a rash.

I would also skip the Palmers and use Aquafor on areas to protect and some Butt Paste to help heal.  Put the Butt Paste on first and the Aquafor on top.  Also there is prescription ointment (that is compounded with Aquafor) that actually keeps the uric acid from aggravating any existing rash.

We use pocket diapers which are just as easy as disposables.
